OK, I feel better today, for no discernable reason. And while I'm procrastinating on all the stuff I have to do today, here are some random links of interest.

* Via lots of people but first I think was [livejournal.com profile] jenwrites, you must see this AWESOME public service announcement from George Takei (aka Sulu in Original Trek). George, in case you've been living under a rock, is gay; and this video is his response to homophobic remarks made recently by an NBA basketball player.

* Via [livejournal.com profile] ceo, here's a story about a network administrator who is extremely good at his job.

* In the rage-honing department, read about how librarians and bookstores are refusing to shelve an award-winning children's book because it contains a dirty word. What word would that be? "Scrotum." Yes, you got that right: the proper anatomical term for a part of the body that all little boys inevitably get curious about at some point, is now considered obscene. Because heaven forbid any parents or teachers of small children should ever have to teach said children about their own bodies!

* In the just-plain-weird department, check out Stumpy, the four-legged duckling.

* In the breakfast department, note that today is Free Pancake Day at IHOP.

OK, that's enough for now. :)

Today I am participating in Blogging For LGBT Families Day.

I am bisexual. It makes little difference in my life right now, since I'm not dating and don't expect to have the time/energy to date for quite a while yet. But it is a part of my life. I am bisexual and a parent.

I am proud to live in the only US State so far that allows same-sex couples to get married. Some (actually, most) of my best friends are lesbian, gay, bi, and/or transsexual. Some of my best friends are lesbian parents or lesbians trying to become parents. The rights of same-sex couples to marry, reproduce, and raise their kids in supportive environments are very important to me.

I hope that by the time my kids are adults, the genders of their chosen partners will be a non-issue in society at large. So mote it be.

Happy Gay Pride Month!

Via [livejournal.com profile] rainbow_goddess, we learn that the USA has joined forces with Iran and several other nations to ban LGBT organizations from the United Nations.

Via [livejournal.com profile] jenwrites, a very touching story about groups of bikers (that's motorcyclists) who travel the country to attend funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq and shield the mourners from the disgusting homophobic protests of Fred Phelps and his followers. (If you're not familiar with Phelps, he's a slimy evil piece of crap who calls himself a Christian and claims that God kills American soldiers in Iraq as punishment for the USA's supposed gay-friendliness.)

In less inflammatory news, via [livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth comes this interesting New Yorker article about a guy suffering from unexplained amnesia.

And on the light-n-fluffy side, via [livejournal.com profile] ww1614 comes this hilarious parody of a freshman composition paper in which the author compares and contrasts two movies: Brokeback Mountain and Curious George. With moderate spoilers for both movies, if you care about that kind of thing.

Over on the April 2006 Expecting Club board, which by the way I really have to stop reading because it just annoys the crap out of me most of the time, I noticed that some of the more experienced moms -- i.e., the ones for whom this isn't their first pregnancy -- have taken to using a new acronym. They now refer to the first-time moms on the board as FTMs.

Heh.

Well, if you're like me, you see FTM and think female-to-male transsexual. Okay, it's not out of the realm of possibility to find one of those on a pregnancy board ... but I'm gonna have to say it's fairly unlikely. ;)

Man, it sure is weird when worlds collide like that. ;) I'm almost certainly the only person who reads that board who has that association with the acronym FTM. I think I'm just plain too weird for that board, basically. ;)

yu5t.

Isaac typed the above with no help from me.

A few minutes ago, out of the blue, he said something to me that sounded a lot like "I like boys." I think it was actually "I like boards," but that doesn't make any sense either, so I don't really know. He did get very upset when I repeated "I like boys" back to him, so I don't think that's really what he meant. It's not that I'm heavily invested in my child being gay, you understand! I just want him to be happy! And if boys, er, boards, are what it takes, then I'm all for it. I guess. ???
