When Worlds Collide
Dec. 6th, 2005 01:38 pmOver on the April 2006 Expecting Club board, which by the way I really have to stop reading because it just annoys the crap out of me most of the time, I noticed that some of the more experienced moms -- i.e., the ones for whom this isn't their first pregnancy -- have taken to using a new acronym. They now refer to the first-time moms on the board as FTMs.
Heh.
Well, if you're like me, you see FTM and think female-to-male transsexual. Okay, it's not out of the realm of possibility to find one of those on a pregnancy board ... but I'm gonna have to say it's fairly unlikely. ;)
Man, it sure is weird when worlds collide like that. ;) I'm almost certainly the only person who reads that board who has that association with the acronym FTM. I think I'm just plain too weird for that board, basically. ;)

Date: 2005-12-06 06:47 pm (UTC)I feel the same way about "bf" to mean "boy friend" when I think it means "breastfeeding."
Oh, and it reminded me of a Hebrew School Committee meeting a couple of years ago when the principal told us that several of the teachers wouldn't be coming back next year because they are "in transition." I asked what she meant and she detailed that one was getting married and moving to where her husband got a job, another was finishing rabbinical school and looking for a full-time rabbi job, etc. I said, "Oh! Where I come from 'in transition' means something else entirely."
Okay, I guess I'm too weird for that board, too.

LOL at the transition example. I've definitely run into that one too.
