At Isaac's afterschool the theme for this month is darkness and each kid was supposed to write a sentence beginning with "When it's dark I think about..." Isaac wrote "When it's dark I think about basicly nothing because I go to sleep. I have nothing in my head. It is too dark to." LOL. He does tend to be rather literal. ;)

More miscellaneous stuff about Isaac )

I could go on and on about my boy :) but I think that's enough for now. But I'll leave you with this fantastic picture that I managed to take of him at the playground recently. I just love it.

Isaac's kindergarten class has been learning about fiction vs. nonfic, and at this morning's parent breakfast each kid read a "how-to" book that he/she had written and illustrated. Isaac's book is "How to Make Bread" with a picture on the front cover of two loaves of bread, with a towel covering them, and two people standing there dwarved by the enormous loaves, LOL.

On the first page, the teacher had given a prompt "Something that I can explain how to do is" and Isaac wrote:
"How to cook bread: Stap 1. Flowr Stap 2. Baking Soda Stap 3. Add shogger Stap 5. [sic] Add Brooune Shugger. I do it becaus I lik to"

(translation: "Step 1. Flour - Step 2. Baking Soda - Step 3. Add sugar - Step 5. Add Brown Sugar. I do it because I like to.")
And a picture of three people standing around, again, an ENORMOUS loaf of bread.

On the second page the prompt is "The things that you need to do this are" and he wrote:
"Flowwer, Shogger, bakeing poter, brone shoggger, vanila, milk, wite of egg, oyl, pan, ovan."
(white of an egg? LOL! he certainly has never seen me put an egg white into bread. Or baking powder or vanilla for that matter. nor do I use two kinds of sugar. hee hee.)
On this page he also drew pictures of all of these items with labels. He even tried to approximate the shape of a jug of milk!

On the third page the prompt is "The first thing that you do is" and Isaac drew a picture of a person and a bowl and something that looks exactly like a large brown penis, but is actually supposed to be a wooden spoon. ;) And he wrote, "The bread needs flower first and ster it."

The next page is "The second thing that you do is" and he wrote "Pore in the baking soda" and drew a very intricate picture of same.

On the next page, "The third thing that you do is" and he wrote "Pore in shogger and then ster untile it is bron[brown]." With picture of course.

And on the last page, "The fourth thing that you do is" and he wrote "Brone shogger vanila milk oil oven yeast bake it in the oven." And a picture of the bowl and all the ingredients in it, and the oven, and I guess what's supposed to be me mixing it. :)

I think this is so awesome. I love that his teacher gave them this project to help with the unit on nonfiction, and I love that he chose making bread for his "how-to"!! :)
