shoulda stayed gone
Oct. 9th, 2007 12:32 pmThere's a whole weekend update and shit, but first let me just announce that I am at home right now, waiting for AAA, because my car would not start this morning. This, of course, sucks.
And a Monday (okay, it's Tuesday but I mean the first day of a workweek) is the worst day for this to happen, because it's the day when I have the largest amount of stuff to haul. Both kids' daycares send their bedding home for washing, so I have a big pillowcase containing mini-pillow and sheet and blanket for Isaac; big plastic bag containing sheet and blanket for Ruthie; also a bag of diapers for Ruthie, plus two lunchboxes and my work bag and my purse. And we of course had to WALK to preschool...! It's not technically that far of a walk, except that it involves a pretty steep hill, and I had to put Ruthie in the big stroller, the one that has a big basket for all the aforementioned stuff but that also squeaks and rattles and looks like it's about to fall apart (and, as I discovered when I went to put her in, the buckle is broken so I couldn't buckle her in and had to keep a close paranoid eye on her the whole time).
So after dropping off Isaac, I decided to abandon the stroller at his preschool and take the bus to Ruthie's daycare with just my arms to carry her and her stuff and my stuff. Well, we survived. Then I went to work and got my work computer and came back home via subway and bus. And now I'm waiting for AAA, which first I had to call and renew my membership in because of course I let it lapse, like the idiot I am. Funny story: If you call AAA's main 800-number and press the option for "sign up for new membership," you get a recorded message saying that someone will be with you soon and you should "please have your membership number ready." Um?
Anyway, so here I am, waiting for the tow truck. Siiiigh. I never should have come back from the cottage.
Uh, I was going to go on with the weekend update thingie and then some blathering about baseball (condolences to
lunaris1013 and
plaidder and any other Cubs fans on my flist) and maybe some book talk, but I think I'm running out of steam. Maybe I should go have some lunch before the AAA guy gets here. Wish me luck, i.e., wish me a not-terribly-expensive car repair....
