So this morning Isaac woke up at 5:00 a.m., and I thought he'd go back to sleep once I brought him into my bed and nursed him, but no such luck. He nursed a bunch, then sat up and babbled, then we switched sides, nursed some more, and then he tried to start crawling around the bed. I was like, I am NOT okay with this. I kept trying to make him lie down and of course he didn't want to. I just wanted him to be calm and quiet until 7 when the alarm goes off! Argh.

So then -- I'm not proud of this, but dude it was 6 a.m. and I just did not want to be up yet -- I put him back in his crib to scream and cry for ten minutes or so. After which I got him up, discovered he was poopy, felt really guilty (i.e. maybe that's why he was fussing that whole time?), changed the diaper, brought him back into my bed to nurse again.

And the next thing I knew it was 9:00. D'oh!!

Heh. Ah well, that'll teach me. Or not.

In other embarrassing news, Isaac now picks up a remote control, points it at the TV, and pushes the buttons. *blush* Where on earth could he have picked that up?? On the bright side, he has no interest in actually watching the TV. He just likes turning it on and off, changing the channels -- in short, he just likes pushing buttons. :)

a fun meme

International Recommend-A-Movie Day. This means everyone should go to their LJ right now and tell their friends to watch a really good movie which most of them probably have not seen. And then tell more people to do it. Hopefully, we'll all have lots and lots of recommendations by the end of the day.

I'll recommend two:

Jeffrey
A really funny and poignant movie about a gay guy who is terrified of getting AIDS. OK, that summary doesn't sound funny, but trust me, it is. Starring Steven Weber of the sitcom "Wings," Michael T. Weiss of "The Pretender," and Patrick Stewart (yes!!! THE Patrick Stewart!) as the super-flamingly-gay best friend. How can you miss out on the opportunity to hear Patrick Stewart ask, in reference to a scarf, "Can I do this? Or do I look like some sort of gay superhero?" Also features an appearance from the guy who played Mr. Trick on BTVS.

Noises Off
Movie version of the hilarious play about a bunch of actors trying to put on a play while dealing with lots of behind-the-scenes jealousies, romances, arguments, etc. This movie has an AMAZING cast including Michael Caine, Carol Burnett, John Ritter, Christopher Reeve, and Denholm Elliott. It is SO fucking funny. I could watch this movie a dozen times and still fall over laughing every time.

I got a new scanner, as I may have mentioned, and I've been scanning in some old pix of me as a child and teenager. (Man, was I a dork in the 80s!) I'll be posting them on my website, but here's a preview...

Little me with mom and grandparents, winter 1976 )
I'm about 2.75 in this one, and you can see that my mom is very pregnant. My brother was born December 1976 and this picture was probably taken in November.

Me and friends as Cetagandan ghem-lords for Halloween )
I'm guessing this is Halloween 1991, or possibly 1990. If you don't get the reference, you're probably not a Lois Bujold fan (and why aren't you?).

BTW, the icon is me around age 5 or so.

updates

Bini update: Finally talked to the vet and she predictably said that I should get a urine sample and bring it in. I'm going to see if there's another puddle under the box that I can pick up with a syringe, otherwise I'll have to get the special litter stuff. AFAIK, he hasn't peed anywhere else lately *knock furiously on wood* but I don't want to let it go. So, yet another item for my to-do list...

TiVo update: I called Sony brief digression ) and the guy said it sounded like a dead hard drive and that I would have to ship it to them for repairs, and should fill out an online form to find out how much it would cost. So I filled out the form and it said the flat-fee rate is $150.

So, for $150 plus the cost of shipping it to Pennsylvania, they'll either fix it or tell me it can't be fixed. Or for $140 plus free shipping, weaknees.com will send me a new hard drive with all the instructions and equipment to install it myself. AND it'll be an 80G drive whereas I currently have a 30G. Sounds like a no-brainer, eh? I just have to call weaknees and make sure that this will solve my problem. From looking at their website I'm about 90% sure that it will.

Isaac update: He had a really good day with his grandma today! Yay. And he went to sleep fairly easily. Tomorrow he has his 15-month checkup at which I expect to be told that everything is great. :)

Flake update: I remembered what it was that I wanted to go to today -- the "grand opening" of the new Super Stop & Shop near me. OK, laugh at me, I can take it. It was great! I love a big clean grocery store, unlike the icky dingy Shaw's nearby. Anyway, I went WAY overboard and bought just a ton of unnecessary stuff, alas ... but hopefully it's all good and we'll eat it and be happy. Still, I came home and was unpacking and was like, "WTF was I thinking???" Violating the First Rule of Shopping will do that to ya.

OK, I think that's all the update-y-cakes for now. Shana Tovah and goodnight!
