Coxsackie may sound like a kinky sex game ;) but in fact it is a disease, a virus common in childhood. The symptoms are fever, decreased appetite, increased drooling, and sores/lesions on the palms, soles, and inside of the mouth -- hence its other name, hand-foot-and-mouth disease. Isaac seems to be suffering from this disease, alas, and was sent "home" from daycare. (The fever is all they really care about. Once the fever is gone, he can return to daycare, even if he still has the lesions.)
So the little guy is here at the office with me, and we'll see how long that lasts. Fortunately, I still have a porta-crib in my office. Unfortunately, he seems to have no desire to nap even though he's definitely sleepy. (This is how it was all weekend. He was sickly and miserable, and refused to nap. It wasn't the best weekend.) Right now he's in the porta-crib wiggling around and muttering to himself.
We have a doctor's appointment at 5 (not much she can do, but at least if she confirms the diagnosis we'll know what we're dealing with) and until then, well, we just gotta survive. If I can't get him to nap, we'll probably head home. No point hanging around the office with a sick kid if I'm not going to get any work done. sigh.
He still won't eat, mostly, but he will nurse, which means he's getting all his nourishment from breastmilk these last few days, which means that *I'm* hungry all the time too. Yep, the mood setting on this post is fairly literal....
