too much excitement
May. 10th, 2003 09:48 pmI'm tired, and not the regular sort of "haven't had enough sleep" tired that I've been for a while now, but a deeper sort, that makes me feel incapable of coping with anything. I think it's because I also haven't had enough to eat today. It was a long, fun-but-tiring, mostly food-free day.
I was supposed to meet a couple of friends at Target to set up my baby registry at 2pm. Around 1:15, I decided I had plenty of time to get a haircut at the place around the corner (which has probably been there for ages, but I just noticed it recently). So I went, and of course it took a really long time because my hair had grown way out of control. That's what happens when you go too long between cuttings. Anyway, the guy did a GREAT job (and I was convinced he was gay until he started talking about his wife and three kids) and I was only about 20 minutes late, and my friends were very understanding.
But the Target in Watertown said we couldn't do the registry there because their system was all messed up (and their zapper guns had all "disappeared"). So we went to the one in Everett, which took WAY longer than it should have because of construction snarling the traffic. But that Target is bigger anyway so they had more stuff, and we had a whole bunch of fun zapping stuff with the little scanner gun. I'll have to go look at it later and see how insane I went and what adjustments need to be made. ;) The beauty of it is, you can change/edit/add/delete items in the registry online, and people can buy stuff from it online, and stuff. Technology, man.
I didn't actually choose a stroller, but I did pick up the carseat part of one of those stroller-carseat combos, and man was it HEAVY! I couldn't imagine comfortably carrying that around by itself, let alone with another ten pounds of baby in it. :P So I think I will probably end up going with a more traditional stroller and a separate carseat. My baby will just have to deal with being transferred from one to the other. Unless I change my mind again at some point. ;)
Anyway, by the time we were done it was past 5, and I hadn't really eaten, so I had a pretzel from Target's little food place, and then my friend who had driven us there was going to drive us back to the other Target to get my car, but on the way we passed by the place where I was going next, so I just told her to drop me off.
Another friend was having a Star Trek TNG viewing marathon party, and he said there would be food, but there wasn't really anything that could sustain me. It was fun to watch the episodes (on DVD -- no commercials!) and heckle them and stuff, but after two episodes I just started feeling really terrible. It was hot, and I was having breathing problems, and my back was killing me, and I was tired, and I hadn't eaten enough. I just couldn't bear it. So I got one of the other partygoers to drive me to my car, and I came home. And here I am.
I feel bad about not being able to stay longer at the party, but oh well. Apparently every now and then I still need to be reminded that you can't just go around doing the stuff you used to do before you were pregnant, especially the not eating and the not sleeping.
And now I must go feed myself something and get to bed. Wah.
