worldcon prep
Aug. 13th, 2002 11:47 amIt's two weeks and one day till I leave for Worldcon, and already I'm having dreams where I'm trying to pack and can't fit everything in my suitcase. Ack! :)
The dreams may be fun to laugh at, but it's a real concern. Last year I drove to Worldcon, which makes for lazy packing because you can just toss everything in your car. Nowadays, with the stronger restrictions on what you can take on a plane, it's not so easy! I have a lot of clothing that I only get to wear once a year, at Worldcon (wenchy clothing, I like to call it) and it can be difficult to pack that stuff, especially my cape.
Also, I bought a new bodice and blouse set on eBay months ago, and kept saying "eh, I have plenty of time before Worldcon to find a skirt that goes with it." But of course I haven't done so yet. Ack! My red or green skirt might be okay, but neither of 'em will be perfect. Sigh. (Here and here are pictures of me in the bodice. I took 'em myself which is why the angle is weird and I'm not smiling because I wasn't sure when the auto-flash was going to go.)
Another part of the problem is that my suitcase's outer pocket, which I used to use for extra pairs of shoes, is basically unusable now because a big part of it has become detached. I wonder if there's somewhere I can take it to be repaired in less than two weeks. And maybe I should try to find out whether the airline I'm using (America West) charges extra for checking two suitcases. I've never checked more than one. OTOH, if I have to take public transportation to or from the airport at any point, having two suitcases will be a major pain in the ass. *sigh*
Oh, but despite all that, I am of course very excited about Worldcon. I've had a great time at the last four that I've been to -- San Antonio '97, Baltimore '98, Chicago '00, Philly '01 -- especially with the presence of Laura and Ariana, who are the best Worldcon roommates and companions a girl could have. :) We just have so much fun together, and it's so great being among so many other science fiction geeks, and meeting the authors and talking about books and writing, and seeing a new city, and just everything. I just love Worldcon and I look forward to it every year! And it's only two weeks away! Yay! (And if I really do get to see
tiggrrl whom I haven't seen for three years, icing on the cake!)
