(Ruthie is nursing while Isaac stands next to us making a strange noise with his mouth)
Me: What is that noise? Is that you?
Isaac: Yeah, that's me. (continues making noise)
Me: That is a very odd noise you're making. What do you think of that, Ruthie?
Ruthie: (lifts her head from my boob) Dude!

Okay, she probably did not actually say "dude." But that sure was what it sounded like.

--------

(Isaac and I are playing Crazy Eights)
Me: Just one or two more games, and then we have to start thinking about what to have for dinner.
Isaac: Let's have green beans!
Me: ah well, we're all out of green beans. I was thinking of making broccoli.
Isaac: Yeah!! Let's have broccoli! And noodles!
Me: ok
Isaac: And tofu!!
Me: Tofu too? Sure, we could do that.
Isaac: No, not tofu, just broccoli and noodles.
Me: Okay, well let's play one more game and then we'll have to go and start cooking all those things.
Isaac: Oh...well...let's just have noodles.
Me: LOL, the noodles take the longest to cook.
Isaac: Oh...well...umm...let's just play Crazy Eights and not eat.
Me: Um, no. How about if we get everything started and then we can play some more while it's cooking?
Isaac: Okay!!
Me: Come on Ruthie, we're going to make broccoli and noodles!
Ruthie: Yeah, bokli bokli! Tofu!!!!
Me: You want tofu Ruthie?
Ruthie: Da Oothie da tofu!!
[...]
Me: (makes noodles, broccoli, and tofu)
Isaac: (eats noodles, broccoli, and tofu)
Ruthie: (eats a few noodles, a few pieces of broccoli; refuses tofu)
Me: (tries to get Ruthie to eat tofu, or at least some more noodles)
Ruthie: (dumps noodles all over her tray and plays with them)
Isaac: I'm all done!
Me: But there's tons of broccoli left!
Isaac: Well, I had enough. (gets up)
Me: (tries to get Ruthie to eat broccoli)
Ruthie: (throws broccoli on floor)
Isaac: Let's play more Crazy Eights!
Me: In a minute, Ruthie's still eating.
Ruthie: Oothie all done!
Me: (starts cutting up broccoli to put in Ruthie's lunch tomorrow)
Isaac: (eats broccoli)

LOL...I love the fact that a) both my kids asked for broccoli and tofu and b) they both ate at least some of the broccoli and c) Isaac polished off the rest of the broccoli even after claiming he was done. :)

"Da Oothie da tofu" sounds so hardcore and hip, somehow.
