mamajoan: me in hammock (smooch isaac)

At Isaac's preschool holiday party they gave me this crafty wall hanging thing that they had made (each kid had made one). It's like, a snowman and a paint handprint of your kid's hand, along with a totally cheesy poem the gist of which is "you sometimes get annoyed when I leave fingerprints on the walls, but someday you'll miss the time when I was a little kid, so here's something to help you remember how small my hands used to be." Except, you know, phrased poetically. And did I mention cheesy?

Yeah...I cannot so much as look at the thing without getting teary. I am a dork.

Also I cannot read the book "Hug" to the kids without tearing up either. This is basically an almost-wordless board book about a baby monkey who goes around the forest seeing other animals hugging their mamas, and he says "Hug" at first happily, but then with increasing sadness as he realizes that he doesn't have his mama to hug. And all the other animals are very sad for him. And then his mama calls his name! And he runs to her! And they hug and all the animals say "HUG!" OMG. I am getting verklempt just typing it. Did I mention me = dork?

Benjamin loves Hug, though I admit that I cannot read it without editorial comments, like about the last page where all the animals have a big group hug, "which of course always happens in the jungle".

You want a real tear-jerker, try I Will Hold You 'Til You Sleep. I can't read that to Benjamin without misting up.

Loving your kids and being emotional about them doesn't make you a dork, it makes you a good mama!

other things about you make you a dork ;)
