quick lunchtime post
Jan. 18th, 2008 12:11 pmarrrgggghhhh, I am so annoyed. The four copies of my house key that I got yesterday, to prevent Wednesday night's disaster from ever happening again ... don't work. Not one of the four of them will open or lock the door. ARGH. This means I'm going to have to go BACK to the hardware store, try to berate them into fixing it, and then fret all day about whether the new keys that they (hypothetically) give me will actually work. Did I mention ARGH?
In kindergarten-decision news, the open houses are next week. I have narrowed it down to three schools based on a combination of a) proximity to home, b) one program that I keep hearing people rave about (particularly
wneleh), and c) randomness...I mean there are a couple of other schools that are probably similarly close "as the crow flies," but I ruled them out simply because I had to rule something out! I had to narrow it down somewhat at least. I can always visit those schools later if I don't love any of the top three.
Anyway, so I called around and one of the three (which is where I go to vote, and that's about all I know about it) wanted you to make an appointment for open-house day, because it's a small school and they need to have some crowd control. So I signed up for the 9:30 tour on Thursday. The second school I called, which is geographically closest to us and thus I believe we're guaranteed a slot, is bigger so they said I could just drop in any time. And the third one, the one
wneleh recommends which is literally a stone's throw from
sandykidd and
metafrantic's house, had already circulated emails saying that you could come any time.
So I think I'll try to do all three on Thursday, but if I do two and then my brain feels too full, I can quit (I can quit any time!) and go back to the last one on Friday. Whew.
Meanwhile I'm contemplating how Isaac is going to deal with the fact that he'll be losing his special Wednesdays-with-grandma once he starts "big kid school." I mentioned it to him briefly the other day, but he was pretty much like "but that won't be until I'm five!" which of course to him is a million years in the future, so it didn't upset him too much yet. heh.
Isaac is definitely learning a bit of actual Spanish from watching "Dora the Explorer." The other night he closed the bathroom door while I was in there, and then told me that if I wanted it to open, I would have to say "abierto!"
In Ruthie news, she is definitely a toddler. ;) She is getting so bossy! The latest is when she has something in her hand that she doesn't want, she'll thrust it at me while demanding "This away!" And if she asks for something, e.g. milk, and I offer an alternative, e.g. water, she'll go "ummm..." in a tone as if she might actually be considering it...for about two seconds before reiterating "MILK!" LOL. On the other hand, she says "please" without prompting, way more frequently than Isaac does...!
