in brief (a subject line I use too often)
Jan. 17th, 2008 10:23 pmHere's the only coherent thing I managed to notate in my Notepad window today for posting here:
-----
We had some "Special K Bars" in the kitchen and I was reading the ingredients for the "strawberry" flavor, and it included something called "strawberry flavored fruit pieces," for which the ingredients were "sugar, cranberries, citric acid, natural strawberry flavor..." LOL!! Why not just call it cranberry flavor then!
-----
indeed.
Tonight's cooking adventure: recipe #6, corn chowder with quinoa, from recipe in the box of quinoa. Not exactly a resounding success, it came out fairly bland and too watery, alas. Um, I was just going to say "I'll take the rest to work for lunch tomorrow" but then I remembered that my one coworker declared Fridays to be "eat lunch out" day, so maybe not. But anyway I'll finish the chowder at some point and ponder what I might do next time to improve it. I am still not exactly great at tasting something and going "aha, it needs some basil" or whatever.
In parenting news we seem to be in a bit of a phase right now where the kids, especially Isaac, are acting out because they want more of my time/attention, but then I get cranky and don't want to give them time/attention because they're acting out. I need to be the one to break this cycle but it is hard. Lately Isaac wants to hang on me a lot (I mean physically leaning/hanging/sitting on me/holding onto my arm or leg, etc.) and it just annoys the crap out of me so I push him away (literally) which makes him feel pushed away (figuratively) and makes him needier so he tries to hang on me all the more often. ARGH. see above re: breaking cycle. And I think a similar thing is going on re Ruthie and all the ridiculous amounts of nursing.
It's kind of freaky sometimes how transparent kids' needs can be. It almost sometimes makes you wish adults could be like that. But otoh it's exhausting.
