the weather gods are against me

mamajoanHey, remember when you were a kid and if it snowed on Sunday night you thought it was great ("woohoo, extended weekend") whereas if it snowed on Friday night you were bummin' ("what a waste!")? Well, turns out, when you're grown up and a parent, it's the exact opposite!
sigh...yeah, so they're predicting 8-14 inches of snow by tomorrow night and schools (including Isaac's) are already canceled for tomorrow. ugh.
current plan is to get up and see what it looks like, and if not too bad, take Ruthie to daycare (assuming it is open) and then do who-knows-what with Isaac. Possibly involving a quick trip on the subway to my office to get my laptop so I can come home and at least pretend to work while Isaac goes slowly insane from the cabin fever. however, unless the forecasters turn out to be seriously mistaken, it looks like I'll have to blow a vacation day on this. did I mention "sigh"?
on the plus side, at least we have food...went grocery shopping today, along with several gazillion of my closest friends. (heard one lady struggling through the aisles yelling "It's not really going to snow! Go home!" LOL) unfortunately, I forgot to buy leeks, which made it very difficult to make potato-leek soup as planned. so I made it with an onion instead, ah well, it turned out okay.
