Happy birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] orbitalmechanic and [livejournal.com profile] ladyvyola (belatedly) and [livejournal.com profile] whuffle and [livejournal.com profile] roozle and [livejournal.com profile] yulecat (today). Whew!

Also yesterday was the birthday of my cousin Connor, also known as the kid on whom [livejournal.com profile] orbitalmechanic taught me how to change a diaper. That was a LONG time ago. I'm pretty sure he turned 19 yesterday. *facepalm* I am old.

It's almost lunchtime and after lunch I'm headed out to Isaac's preschool party. He gave me a preview of the songs they're going to sing, and I notice that they have carefully removed all Christmas references, even in "Rudolph." Yes! I was trying to sing along with Isaac, and when I sang "then one foggy Christmas eve," Isaac was like, "that's not how it goes, it goes 'then one dark and foggy night, the reindeer came to say..." WHAT!! How can you do frickin' RUDOLPH and not talk about Xmas and Santa. Yeeeeeeesh. LOL.

Uh, anyway, so that should be fun. ;) And then we'll be on vacation. Whew. It's going to be a LONG ten days.

It's funny, here at the Quaker school, which is technically a religious school, we let the kids sing the Hymn to Joy from Beethoven's fifth symphony, but they changed the words from, "We wish you a Merry Christmas" to, "We wish you a Happy Holidays". I don't get it.

LOL, you mean Ode to Joy from Beethoven's 9th symphony, I believe. ;)

anyway, that one's an ode to an ancient Greek goddess rather than the Christian god, so maybe that's why the Quakers think it's okay? hee hee!

Actually, they sang the hymn using Beethoven's music, which is very Christian. But I didn't think "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee" was the right title, so I tried looking it up online and came up with "Hymn to Joy". Apparently the first one is right, though. :P
