This morning did not get off to a good start.

1. The Leaky Ceiling
When Ruthie is done eating, I usually take the tray off her highchair and help her climb down, because I can do all that with one hand and it's a lot easier than lifting her out. So I usually put the tray on the little side-table next to my kitchen chair.

So this morning Ruthie was, as usual, clamoring for cheerios. She climbed into her chair, I got her a bowl, and I grabbed the tray from the side table and started to whisk it around to put on the highchair...Liquid flies everywhere. Well, in my not-quite-awake state I thought Ruthie must have spilled something on the tray last night and it was still there. Of course, after a moment or two I realized that was crazy because I would have noticed it when I put the tray aside last night.

So, of course, the liquid was water that had dripped down from the ceiling. *headdesk* There's a spot up there that was a bit soggy when we moved in, and there's a radiator right above it, so we figured the radiator must have leaked once. I got the ceiling fixed and everything had seemed to be okay. But now, all of a sudden, not so much.

I left a message for Brian, and he had better do something about that before tonight comes and that radiator kicks on again. Ugh.

Meanwhile, fortunately(?) the highchair tray appeared to have caught most of the water. But still, a lot of other stuff on that little side table was quite wet, including one book that I've really been looking forward to reading (The Moonbeam Mage by Laurie Marks), which was completely waterlogged and may not be salvageable. :(

2. The Gas Meter Noise
Meanwhile, I went down to the basement to get some laundry, and noticed a strange rattling noise coming from one of the gas meters down there. I'm pretty sure it's Brian's. I called Keyspan and pushed the option for "I smell gas" even though I didn't, because I wanted to speak to an emergency person. Well, she must not have thought it was an emergency because she said she'd send someone out tomorrow between 8am and 1pm to look at it. So now I have to figure out how to be home (or have someone home) during that window tomorrow. urgh.

At least I know that they do take actual gas leaks seriously, because the two times in the past that I actually DID smell gas and called them, they got someone over there within minutes.

3. The Missing Key
Then I finally got my head out of all of the above and got the kids ready to go, and we got onto the front porch and I went to lock the door...and couldn't find the key. I am totally mystified by this because I know I had the key in my hand. I had removed the house key from my car-key ring, but I specifically took both of them in my hand and thought "okay, I have both keys" and went out the door and closed the door. So the key HAD to be there somewhere, on the porch, or on the inside floor, or in my pockets, I don't know...but I looked everywhere and couldn't find it. So I ended up leaving anyway, although of course I'm not happy having left my door just unlocked, but what could I do?? ([livejournal.com profile] anotherjen if I can't find the key I'll have to come over and get my spare back from you.)

4. The Missing Hat
Isaac appears to have lost his new hat. The one I just bought for him at Target on Sunday. *facepalm* It's not in the car or at his preschool. I'm holding out a tiny bit of hope that it might be at the little convenience store across the street from preschool, where we stopped for milk last night. I'll stop in there tonight and check. Otherwise, well, I guess I'm glad I only spent $8 on that hat, but still, geez.

Also, not really a fifth bullet item, but it was REALLY cold this morning and I fretted that I hadn't dressed Ruthie warmly enough. I ended up deciding to drive to Davis Square rather than wait for the bus (of course, having decided that, the bus came as soon as I got us back into the car) and then had to park two blocks away from daycare -- no big deal in okay weather, but that was a freaking LONG two blocks in this morning's 20-degree weather with biting wind and icy sidewalks! I bundled Ruthie up in the stroller with a blanket that I keep in the car, and she seemed pretty toasty, but me, I was an icicle. oy. winter sux.

OK, enough griping. On the plus side, at least I made it to work okay, and work-related stuff is coming together, and I seem to have acquired a lunch date with [livejournal.com profile] whuffle, so it's not all bad :)

Another thing that's not all bad:
Bucky seems to really agree with you that Veggie Planet's tofu brocolli curry is tasty stuff. He/She has been dancing up a storm ever since I sat back down at my desk. Won't She/HE love it when the same dish reappears for lunch tomorrow!

Children wear sweaters because their mothers are cold.
