if he delight in him
Nov. 27th, 2007 02:39 pmAnother good, but grueling chorus rehearsal last night. Should I be twisting arms to get y'all to come to our concert? I feel like I always post about it here but none of you ever come. Maybe it's just not your "thang." That's okay too.
I'm pretty much giving up on my idea to try to find someone to bring Isaac to the concert. It's just too complicated (going to be tricky enough finding one babysitter, let alone two) and I don't think he'd get enough out of it to make it worthwhile. Maybe next year.
Speaking of next year, Isaac and I have been talking about time. This morning he asked me when it would be December and I showed him today on the calendar, and helped him figure out that there are three more days until December. Then we talked about the fact that January comes after December.
Then out of the blue he says, "When it was January, was Ruthie still in your belly?" I don't know why he seems so obsessed with my pregnancy lately. :)
So I explained as best I could, that when it was January in 2006, Ruthie was in my belly, but in January 2007 she was out of my belly and was a baby. Then I further explained that Ruthie was born in March 2006, so she turned one in March 2007, and will turn two in March 2008. Then he wanted to know when 2008 is, so I explained again about how December is the last month of 2007 and when December is over and January begins, then it will be 2008.
I don't think he quite got all of that, but it will probably come clearer when New Year's Day actually rolls around.
We also talked this morning about bagels, of which we now have an abundance thanks to my mom. Isaac had said that there were six bagels in the bag and I explained that actually there were five because I ate one (Isaac: "When??" Me: "Yesterday, for breakfast, when I was at work." Isaac: "Where was I??" Me: "At school, unable to properly police my bagel-eating transgressions!" ;) ) and then I was packing one up to take to work today, and --
Isaac: Now we only have four bagels!
Me: Four in this bag, but we also have nine in the freezer, that I froze yesterday.
Isaac: Four (holding up four fingers) plus nine (holding up five fingers on the other hand) makes ten.
Me: No, actually four plus nine makes thirteen.
Isaac: Mama, maybe when I get one hundred then I'll have thirteen hands.
I should note that in Isaac-ese, "when I get [number]" means "when I turn [number] years old," so this meant that he expects to grow eleven extra hands in the next 95.5 years. hee hee. Although I also think that when he said hands he meant fingers, but I could be wrong. Who can say??
In other news, a relative of ours is leaving at the end of December to go to Africa for six months on a Fulbright, and is looking for someone to care for her cat while she's away. I sorta kinda told her that we would do it, although we did agree that she'd first exhaust all her other options, particularly in her area (currently lives in Michigan). I'm cautiously excited about the idea of having a kitty again, but also a bit nervous about handling it with the kids -- particularly Ruthie who won't understand that we're "borrowing" this kitty, and who thus might get upset when B. returns from Africa and wants her kitty back. Not sure what to do about that. It could get ugly if she (if we all!) get attached. But we'll see what happens. Maybe B. will find someone else to kittysit and it'll all be moot.
In other other news it is freakishly warm today and there is bright green grass in my backyard. The entire earth is just really confused.

Date: 2007-11-27 10:52 pm (UTC)The Isaac stuff is cute. Ilana at almost 7 is still trying to work out the idea of different increments of time, but I bet Isaac will figure it out sooner because he's so good with numbers.
