Isaac on growing up

(Upon looking at an old picture of Isaac and being told it's him at age 2.5)
Isaac: But now I'm 4.
Me: Yes, and soon you'll be 4 and a half.
Isaac: But mama, I'm not going to be fourteen.
Me: eh?
Isaac: I'm going to go one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve, and then I'll go back to one again, right?
Me: (lol) No sweetie, after twelve you're going to be thirteen, and then fourteen.
Isaac: ...fourteen and a half?
Me: Yes, fourteen and a half, and then you'll be fifteen.
Isaac: And sixteen and seventeen and eighteen and nineteen and twenty, and then I'll go back to one again.
Me: No, honey, you're never going to be one again. You're just going to keep growing and growing.
Isaac: I'm gonna go all the way up to one hundred!
Me: Yep, maybe!
Isaac: And then I'll be as big as the sky!

That's really interesting! Maybe it's because he sees our calendar going in cycles (days, years, etc), that it's hard for him to comprehend that some things just have a beginning, a middle, and an end. OTOH, if you consider reincarnation, then maybe he will get a chance to be one again. But he may not be ready for that idea!

Yeah, we so often talk about how old Ruthie is, and so she went from ten months to eleven months to twelve months, and then I started saying "now Ruthie is one." And clearly that's pretty confusing for him.

LOL about reincarnation -- he barely even grasps the concept of death, so I don't want to complicate things further ;)

Ah, that's probably why he thinks you "start over again" with one. Well, since he's so good with numbers, you can probably start showing him how a year is 12 months long, so Ruthie is a year and X months old now, and in Y, she'll be two years old.
