weekend rapport
Sep. 10th, 2007 01:45 pmwow, we had a pretty great weekend! :) Mom and I both decided we were too tired to go to the cottage, so we stayed home, and it was good. On Saturday we went places and did things, and then on Sunday we stayed home and just hung out. I think the kids enjoy a quiet day at home now and then just as much as I do.
On Sat we went to the farmer's market and then made a quick Target run to get Isaac more underwear. He chose Elmo, which I kind of pushed him toward because I thought it had some with Elmo and some with Grover, but it turns out that the picture of Grover on the package was merely a smokescreen, because all seven pairs of undies have Elmo on them. Sigh, oh well. At least it's some variety from Thomas the Tank Engine. ;) Anyway, then some grocery shopping, some time at the playground with grandma, ordered Thai food for dinner with grandma. A good day.
Sunday, we actually slept in until 8 am!!! omg, LOL. It's kind of sad that 8 is my idea of seriously sleeping late, but there you have it. ;) Then we did a fair bit of cleaning up around the house. Isaac enjoyed helping to mop the floor after breakfast. Then as we were dumping out the dirty water into the bathtub and rinsing out the mop, Ruthie started trying to take off her shirt, LOL. So I said, "it's not bathtime," and she got all upset and started fussing. So I was like, okay fine, it IS bathtime! So we had a bath at like 9:30am. LOL. Of course it all ended in tears -- Ruthie's, after she fussed to get out so I took her out and got her all dried off and diapered and dressed and then she saw Isaac still having fun in the bath and wanted to get back in. Woe! The life of a toddler is so hard.
Anyway, in addition to mopping the kitchen floor we also cleaned up the hallway, living room, and bathroom somewhat. I put away the potty chair that
anotherjen gave us a while back, because Isaac pretty much just uses the toilet now and the potty was cluttering up the bathroom. Don't even get me started on how easy it is to clutter up a bathroom as teeny as mine. When we bought the house I sure wasn't picturing trying to get anything done with two kids in there. ugh.
Oh, I also did some cooking and food prep! Isaac helped me put together a marinade for some tofu. I had in mind to coat it with wheat germ and fry or bake, which is a great way to do tofu for kids and I thought it might be a good lunchbox item for Ruthie. But before I got to the cooking, just while I was checking on the marinating tofu, Ruthie wanted to try it, so she did, and she liked it! Raw, but marinated. She couldn't get enough. She was eating it and eating it. So I insisted that Isaac try it raw too, to which he was very resistant, but finally he did try it and he liked it too! Between the two of them they ate probably half the tofu just like that, and I never even had to cook it. Excellent. I put more of it in Ruthie's lunchbox today.
I also made zucchini-potato soup, just a little bit of it to try it out. It seems to have come out pretty well. I didn't eat it, just tasted it, and brought it in for my lunch at work today. I found the tip somewhere online, about using potatoes in this kind of soup, to add creaminess without actually adding, you know, cream. Seems like this soup would freeze really well too. So yay for that.
Anyway, so that's our thrill-a-minute weekend. ;) Unfortunately we took such a nice long nap yesterday afternoon, that I had trouble getting to sleep last night and thus am all groggy today...ah well, nothing's perfect eh?
