Today I made some calls and got hold of a form to authorize the hospital where I had my gall bladder removed to send my records about same to the gastroenterologist's office. I faxed the form in. I hope they can do that by next Wednesday when I have my appointment.

(While filling out the form I pulled up my LJ to double-check the dates, and ended up rereading all the voice posts I made back then. Man, that was a sucky time in my life, wasn't it just?)

This morning I also confirmed with Isaac's preschool director that it will be okay to take him there next Wednesday for an hour or so before my mom comes to pick him up. That's because next Wednesday Ruthie will be starting at a new daycare center. So what else I did today was, stopped by the daycare this morning to fill out the forms and write them a check to hold her slot. So my plan for next Wed is to take Isaac to preschool, take Ruthie to daycare, stay with her for an hour or so, then go to the gastro appointment. Afterward, I can check in with the daycare to see how Ruthie is doing and either go back there, or go to work, or maybe go work from home depending. I guess I don't actually know how long the gastro appointment will take. I hope he doesn't decide to send me for lengthy time-consuming tests right then and there. ugh.

The new daycare is literally right next to the subway station in Davis Square, so that should be super-convenient. I can drop Ruthie off and just hop on the subway, and then in the evenings I can pick her up and we'll jump the bus to get to preschool and pick up Isaac. And the daycare seems pretty nice. It's actually part of the same big chain that also owns the center out in Acton where Isaac went for most of his life. The toddler room has one male teacher (in addition to three female), which I think is cool. And one of the other toddler-room teachers is named Ruth! I hope that won't be too confusing for everyone :)

The other thing I did today was look into ranges (stoves, ovens) a bit more. I called the appliance store where my mom got her stuff when she redid her kitchen a few years ago, and they are open till 8pm tonight, and they said that if I put down a deposit tonight, they'll run the transaction tomorrow so that I still get the benefit of the sales-tax holiday. So I'm going to take the kids to mom's house tonight and go over there and hopefully make a final decision on a range. It's a little crazy because it'll mean a whole lot of extra driving tonight, but I'm anxious to just get it done. And that way we can leave for the cottage tomorrow morning and I won't have to fret about it.

I invited a couple of Isaac's preschool friends to come out to the cottage this weekend, but one mom said she didn't think they could make it and the other dad hasn't replied to my email yet. alas.

In book news, I finished Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell, which was excellent and I shall now recommend it to everyone I see, even strangers on the street. I feel kind of American-history-challenged in general anyway (thanks to that liberal Cambridge public-school education? ;) ) so a lot of the info was new to me, but in particular, it's really fascinating the way she ties history with current events. The capsule summary of this book is that she travels around the country visiting sites related to the assassinations of US Presidents Lincoln, Garfield, and McKinley (sites like the doctor's house where John Wilkes Booth got his broken leg set after shooting Lincoln; the prison where that doctor was locked up for aiding and abetting; the museum displaying the floor tile on which Garfield was standing when he was shot; and so forth). She recounts her travels in conjunction with recounting the stories of the assassinations themselves, including the people involved, the circumstances, the motives, the actual acts and the aftermath, etc. And, most fascinatingly, she draws parallels between the political climate of the times and the current political situation. REALLY good stuff. Go read it!

Ahem, okay, anyway, back to work. :) Wish me luck with the oven-shopping tonight. Busy busy!!
