the continued antics of Having A Day Girl
Jun. 29th, 2007 11:27 amYesterday continued to look like a good day when I got email from TiVo informing me that for a limited time, I can transfer my lifetime membership to a new dual-tuner Series 2 box for only $300. I have to ponder a bit, but I will probably go for it. The Series 2 has some great features that my ancient Series 1 lacks, and the dual-tuner bit is cool (though I don't know how much I'll really use it). And I feel like my old box is on its last legs, which makes me a bit nervous. OTOH, that's three hundred bucks. So, I shall ponder.
Last night when we got home, I took us for a walk to CVS to get a few essentials. I put Ruthie in the stroller, partly to spare me carrying her, and also because I was getting a few large heavy items. I put my wallet and keys in the cup-holder thingie on the stroller since my shorts didn't have a pocket. That's foreshadowing, by the way. It was SO hot and humid, the kind of weather where even a short walk like that can exhaust you. I let Isaac run around in the air-conditioning for a while and then I thought we'd stop in to a convenience store on the way back and get popsicles. They had a really crappy popsicle selection, so we ended up getting those "push-up" thingies which actually have sherbet and were quite tasty. Ruthie enjoyed it immensely and got it ALL over her face, neck, chest, shirt, hands....
We were walking home eating these things and passing by a lot of people on their way to the city's July 4th festivities, about which more in a moment. Isaac said "hi" to everyone we passed, which was kind of funny. When we got home, I had us stop on the front porch to finish our sherbet before we went inside. It was VERY drippy. I took Ruthie out of the stroller so she could climb around on the stairs and get even more dirty ;) and I folded up the stroller and put it in its usual place on the porch. We hung out there finishing our treats and getting totally sticky and watching the people go by. Isaac took forever to eat his sherbet, so it was basically liquid by the time he finished. LOL.
Then we went inside and washed off. For ages I've been trying to interest Isaac in the pleasures of putting a cool wet cloth on your face when the weather's hot, but he has resisted. But for some reason yesterday he decided it was the best thing ever. So after I had finished cleaning up both of them, he was still busily wetting the washcloth, rubbing it over his face, wetting it again...LOL, so I left him there and went about my business.
I put on the AC in my bedroom again and we finished our evening and went to bed. Unfortunately, the city's fireworks began before Isaac was asleep. I had told him that if the fireworks scared him he could come into my room, but he didn't. After the fireworks were over (the final volley, as in previous years, was SO loud it made my head throb), I went out of my AC'd room with a half-asleep Ruthie to check on Isaac. He was huddled under both his blankets, crying and DRENCHED in sweat, the poor guy! I felt so bad. :( But he cheered up with a quick hug and a firm assurance that there would be no more fireworks for the evening. I put his CD on again and he was fine. Went back into the AC and got Ruthie to sleep and then me.
Sometime during the night I woke up and was confused because I couldn't hear the AC any more. This morning I realized that it was because the rest of the world had FINALLY cooled down, so the AC didn't have much work to do.
So this morning we get up, usual morning routine, take Isaac to preschool, take Ruthie to
sandykidd. I park the car, get out with all my stuff. Start toward the bus stop, reach for my wallet. Wallet? Wallet? Uh oh.
Yes. Long story short, I had never taken my wallet out of the stroller's cupholder. There it was on the front porch. I had folded up the stroller, so the cupholder was basically perpendicular to the ground, but the wallet was still in it. Anyone could have walked up the steps and grabbed it. But they didn't...Sometimes I don't deserve the luck that I get!
LOL, am I a dork or what?
