It has definitely been a "fortunately/unfortunately" type of day/week.

I have mysteriously acquired a cut on the webbing, or whatever you call it, the bit of skin between two fingers. It is incredibly irritating. Currently I have a bandaid on it which isn't helping and looks weird.

Apparently Ruthie and I slept like the dead (or at least the comatose) last night, because I'm pretty sure we didn't wake up a single time from about 11 until the alarm went off at 6:30. Wow. That was teh awesome.

My throat is still, or again, scratchy. I am getting really annoyed. It's that "starting to get a cold" sort of feeling, except that it has been basically exactly the same for over a week now. It got a bit better briefly and now is getting worse again. If I'm going to get a cold, frickin' get a cold already! Can you get strep and not actually have a sore throat? Urgh.

I ordered some stuff for myself off Amazon for my birthday and it arrived yesterday. Yay! I got two new books (which, maybe, someday, I'll have time to actually read) and an enormous collection of New York Times Sunday crosswords. Woohoo.

(psst, this Friday is my birthday in case you were wondering.)

This morning Ruthie and I visited another in-home daycare provider. I liked her better than the one we visited last Friday, but there are issues I have to consider. I'll see if I can get a chance to post about that later. I'm just a little stressed out because she said there's someone else coming to visit tomorrow and if that other person snaps up the spot while I'm waffling, I'll be sad.

Re health insurance: Neighborhood Health still has not called me back despite the fact that on Thursday they said I'd hear back within 48 hours and now it's Tuesday. :P But I realized that there's no reason I have to use them for my insurance -- I was just going with them out of inertia since they are the plan that covered us while we were on MassHealth -- so yesterday I called Blue Cross and they are a little bit cheaper AND they'll bill me (as opposed to Neighborhood wanting the first month's premium up front) AND I can be covered basically as soon as I fax them the form. Although there's a 6-month waiting period unless I show them proof of "creditable coverage," so I need to get a form from MassHealth and send that to Blue Cross too. I spoke to MassHealth yesterday and they said they'd send me the form. So, all in all, if all goes well we could be covered by tomorrow. (And then I'll need to call and make an appt for Ruthie's one-year checkup. Ack!)

OK, that's enough ups and downs for now, eh?

The more I hear about my American friends' adventures in trying to get basic health care, the more I am grateful for my Canadian health care, even if it doesn't cover everything that I want it to cover.

Seriously--it is like living in the Dark Ages. I'm amazed that I can call the insurance company, ask whether a test my doc wants me to have is covered, and hear, "Uh, that depends." Follow-up questions are no help whatsoever. Basically, I have to wait to see what I get billed for after the fact. It's also incredibly frustrating to have friends who have things covered that I don't, and vice-versa.

Crazy.

Heh. I used a gift cert from my bro-in-law for my birthday and got a collection of NY Times crosswords a week or two ago. Of course, mine has puzzles from the whole week, and I'm starting on the Mondays, which is about as hard as doing a People Magazine crossword. Still--fun!

Yeah, I just can't stand to do easy crosswords any more. They just irritate me. So I can't buy most crossword books/magazines, because they usually only have a few at the end that are hard enough for me. Which is why I was excited to find this compilation of FIVE HUNDRED Sunday puzzles! For only like $12! Man, this book will probably last me into retirement. :)
