saving daylight
Mar. 11th, 2007 10:28 amYesterday we were at mom's house while she frantically finished up her packing for her trip to Italy, and as part of her preparations she went around changing all the clocks, since she isn't going to want to worry about that when she comes home. It's hard enough explaining Daylight Saving Time to a 3-year-old anyway; now try explaining why we're doing it a day early! LOL -- Isaac was confused, but extremely interested since he is very much into telling time lately.
(at one point while mom was setting one clock, Isaac said "Let's make it say 6:00!" (which is when he's allowed to watch his daily half-hour of tv) LOL!)
Anyway, after mom finished moving all the clocks forward, we reminded each other not to freak out when we looked at them and go "oh crap it's almost time to leave!" But of course in the first five minutes we both did that like thrice, heh. So I went and got some bright pink post-its from mom's desk and put them over both the clocks in the kitchen (where we were) as a visual reminder to us.
So this morning we woke up and Isaac came into my bed as usual and told me what the clock said, and I said "oh that reminds me, we have to set the clock ahead," and he goes, "Where's our piece of paper?" what paper? "the one we're going to put over it to remind us that it's wrong."
So I had to explain it all, before my morning caffeine. LOL. I doubt it made any sense to the poor kid. ;)
It has been a while since mom last went on a trip of any length, and I think it's going to be harder on Isaac this time since he's older and can understand better. And particularly because the trip spans two Wednesdays, which is the day he usually spends with grandma, riding the subway. Yesterday when we were discussing her trip, Isaac actually asked about it without us mentioning that aspect. "What am I going to do when Grandma's away and it's Wednesday?" I told him he'll be going to school. He didn't seem pleased. I expect some severe balking come Wednesday morning. :( Mom gave me a new toy train to give him on Wed to make up for it (Percy) but I doubt he'll consider it an adequate substitute.
On the plus side, mom left me her car with its Cambridge parking sticker, which will hopefully make the parking situation a little easier these two weeks. I just can't afford to be paying $22 to park every single day.
