Last week I posted an ad on craigslist looking for someone to pick up Isaac from preschool and take him home. Right now, with Ruthie (temporarily, I hope) in the care of Bastian's nanny, due to where she lives, the whole dropoff/pickup thing is just kind of a nightmare. So it seemed to me that if I could get someone else to pick up Isaac while I pick up Ruthie, it would just make everything easier. It's a pretty easy gig for someone: pick Isaac up, drive him less than a mile to our house, hang out with him for a maximum of half an hour. And then the person would be free by 6pm to go to other babysitting gigs, or have a life, or whatever. I said in the craigslist ad that I would pay $15 per incidence. I was a little hesitant about doing this via craigslist, but I wasn't getting anywhere with other methods (e.g. word of mouth) so I thought what the hell.
I got a bunch of the usual craigslist-style idiots in reply (helloooooo, people, when the ad specifically says you must have a car, don't respond saying "I live near the T"!!), but I did get a few that sound promising. And one of them turns out to be a young man who has some babysitting and camp counseling experience. I thought that was interesting. He even said, if I was uncomfortable with the idea of a male babysitter, that he would understand. Kind of makes me wonder what kinds of ugly/awkward conversations he must have had with parents in the past. I emailed him back saying that he should come over and meet us, at the least. Personally, I think a male babysitter could be great for Isaac, assuming that we like him and everything, of course.
In other interesting to no one but me news ;) , I called the WIC office intending to cancel our appointment for this Saturday, because I'm working now and my income is going to be way over the limit. But the woman said that I would still be eligible to receive checks for myself and Ruthie until Ruthie turns one, as long as I'm still nursing, regardless of my income. I said that Ruthie will be one in just three weeks(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), but she said nevertheless I'm entitled to those checks and I should still come and get them. So she talked me into keeping the appointment. It's at 10:00, so it's a good thing our appointment at the Chocolate Buffet isn't until 1:30. I think I won't mention that to the nutritionist. ;)
ok, gotta go, more later
