Hey! Remember the company that hired me last summer? The one for which I left my old job that I had been at for four years? The one that then proceeded to lay me off less than three weeks after I started?

They're hiring again. I just saw a technical writer position for that company, at that location, on boston.com's job listing section.

I...don't even know what to say. I'm truly speechless.

I'd reapply.

It can't hurt to apply for it. There were a few writers laid off with you, right? Maybe they don't want to "tap" one if they only have one job, so they just posted it.

I think this may be the Universe saying, "Hey, you needed some time off with the baby. Now here's that job again!"

I'd apply for it, too.

Apply for it, but be very wary...

Exactly what she said! Um, but with synonyms. Yeah!

Wary in case they hire her and then lay off a bunch of people again? It might be worth it anyway. Like the rest of the commenters, I say apply.

Yeah, it's a case of once burned, twice shy. It's still worth trying.

Stuff like that happens a lot - they layoff to get through a patch, and then, when things turn around - usually in the 1Q of the next year - they re-hire. I need two hands and one of my feet to count the number of times I have seen this happen to other friends of mine who work in IT, for example.

I'd reapply. You never know! And you know what to ask them if you get an interview!

They must have gotten a new contract and now they need more people. They'd be a good fallback, but if you can get a job that isn't dependent on outside contracts that'd be better. Good luck, either way, to get a new job.

They must have picked up a new contract.

In the 90s I was part of a layoff that got some outplacement services. Citibank had a big layoff then too, and lots of their people were there. At some point I said it was my 3rd layoff, and another woman said it was her 3rd layoff - from Citibank! Often they got laid off, then "consulted" for Citi, then got rehired. I've had other colleagues who left a company and went back to it later.

They may have got a contract, or VC or something. If they liked you once, they probably will like you again.
