mamajoan: me in hammock (cheesecake disaster)

OK, the subject line is just a play off the book Help, my apartment has a kitchen! which I saw on Amazon a while back. It's supposedly a cookbook for kids who get out of college and get their first real apartment and have never really had to cook for themselves regularly before.

Anyway, the "cleaning committee" project went off well yesterday. Super-mega-huge thanks to all who participated, including my mom, [livejournal.com profile] metafrantic, [livejournal.com profile] sandykidd, [livejournal.com profile] pekmez, no-LJ-Maria, and of course the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] anotherjen who organized and directed the entire operation.

Much progress was made and the floor of my bedroom, which frankly I had begun to wonder whether it even still existed, was unearthed. So to speak. So that's pretty awesome. Also Isaac's room, which I am now striving to think of as "the kids' room" (even though Ruthie has slept in the crib probably once in her whole life and that was for about five minutes), is pretty much completely tidied up. So that's great too. This morning I asked him if he'd like to take his trains into his room and play with them there instead of the living room, and he got all excited, so we took them in there and he played with them basically all day.

Of course, there's still much to be done, particularly in the kitchen. And I have tons of laundry now. But it's looking so much better, and I'm feeling so much better about it all.

Then this morning I put up a craigslist post, offering up the two big boxes of baby clothing that we filled during the cleaning, as well as several other large baby items. Within minutes I got several emails, and within an hour all the stuff was taken away by a nice grandmotherly lady. And when I say grandmotherly, I'm not talking the old-fashioned, white bun on the top of head, cookie-baking, cheek-pinching, dearie-me-saying stereotype. No, I'm talking the NEW grandmotherly, the lumberjack-flannel-wearing, minivan-that-she-bought-for-transporting-grandchildren-driving, surfing craigslist for baby stuff modern grandma. :) Anyway, she was very nice and very excited about all the stuff. "I'm so happy! It's like Christmas!" said she. So it's good to know that our no-longer-needed baby stuff is going to a good home.

Ruthie was super-cranky today, so I didn't get too much more done. Tomorrow, being yet another stupid Monday holiday (sorry Dr. King but I don't think you wanted to be an excuse for mattress sales either), Isaac's preschool is closed; but mom offered to take the kids for a couple hours so I can get a little more cleaning done. (Among other things I plan to vacuum while they're not here. Yesterday after everyone left, I tried just a little dust-bustin' and they both freaked out. And yet Isaac loves to push the ball-popper around and say he's "sweeping." go figure.)

Oh, and then this evening we watched some of the football game, even though we're not really football people. At one point when the Patriots scored, I said "yay!" and I swear I saw Ruthie clap her hands. Smartest baby ever!
