Holiday Madness!
Nov. 24th, 2006 08:55 amBy now, most of the USAmericans reading this are starting to recover from the Thanksgiving madness: the food, the family, the football, the sugar highs, the cleaning, the food coma, the exhaustion.
But for us, it's just beginning.
We're having two Thanksgivings this year. Last night we had a small-ish one, just immediate family: me and my kids, my mom and her brother (my uncle who came in from California), my brother
metafrantic and
sandykidd and Bastian. We had chicken, brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, broccoli, spinach-cheese-rice casserole, and my molasses spice cookies. Tonight, we're going to our cousins' house and having the "real" Thanksgiving, with 18 family members expected, with the turkey and sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie and all that.
I'm tired already just thinking about it!
I have to make two casseroles by 3pm.
metafrantic and
sandykidd agreed to come over and help with food prep and kid-wrangling, otherwise there's no way I'm getting it all done. And I guess this all probably means that Isaac isn't going to get his nap, which ought to be "interesting." I just hope he'll behave himself okay at the dinner, since I know it'll be hard for him with all those strangers, all that boring conversation, all that not-being-center-of-attention. Gotta think about what toys we can bring for him.
I also hope Ruthie will take at least a little bit of a nap and not be a basket case the whole evening. ugh.
Wish us luck!!
