wheeeeee, the whirlwind continues
Nov. 22nd, 2006 12:37 pmI went to bed at 8:30pm last night. I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo not okay with still being sick. I'm soooooooooooooooo tired of soup and tea and juice. I'm sooooooooooo afraid that this is going to be my entire winter: one cold after another with barely a break in between. I've literally been fighting off this cold for a month now with only one or two days of feeling "mostly basically okay" in between. Adrenaline got me through yesterday morning's nurse-in, but once I got home and came down from the high of seeing myself on the noon news, I seriously crashed.
And I don't feel all that much better today despite having gone to bed so early. Pout, whine, moan. And I have a lot of cooking to do...before which, I have a lot of cleaning to do...and I have to go to the grocery store. Augh! Deliver us from grocery stores on erev Thanksgiving!
Anyway.
The nurse-in was a LOT of fun. It was a little sad that we only got 7 moms and 8 babies (compared with some of the other sites that got 35-40 of each, plus dads and siblings!), but it was still cool. When I arrived at 9:45, there was a crowd of like 10 media people with cameras, and just me. O.O Luckily, a few more moms showed up soon after. It was a crazy scene of cameras in the face, questions, trying to be articulate, babies all wide-eyed and staring all around, etc., LOL. Finally we moved in a procession to the seating area (in one of the video clips from a new story, you can see us walking) and sat and nursed. Ooh, the cameras loved that part. :) We chatted and nursed and answered more questions and all of that. Then my uncle called to say that his plane had landed, so I packed up my stuff to go. There was an airport customer-service lady, an older woman, standing around just keeping an eye on things, so I asked her which way to the other terminal, and after giving me directions she said, "Good for you!" and proceeded to tell me all about how she nursed her three daughters, now in their 40s. :)
I can't remember whether I posted this link yesterday, but it has an awesome video from Channel 7 (our local NBC affiliate) which I did not see on their telecast yesterday, but it probably aired and I probably just missed it. Anyway, it includes a nice long sound-bite from me, plus some really good footage of Ruthie being adorable. :D Just click on the "Watch the video" link above the headline.
Overall, the nurse-in drew somewhere around 800 moms and a similar number of babies, dads, and supporters, at around 35 airports nationwide. Awesome! :)
In other news, I got home after all that yesterday to find an email telling me that I didn't get the job. Oh well. *sigh* Back to the drawing board on Monday.
