stuff, stuff everywhere!!
Oct. 29th, 2006 01:16 pmSo Brian has returned from NYC with a UHaul full of stuff from the late Aunt Ruth's place. A 15-foot UHaul crammed to the gills with stuff!!
Roughly, from memory:
1 bed
1 desk
2 bookcases
2 dressers
3 small coffee tables
4 lamps
1 long kitchen island thingie
1 sofa/loveseat
4 large chairs
3 smaller chairs
1 possibly antique sewing machine
And uncounted dozens (possibly a very slight exaggeration) of boxes and bags full of other house-type stuff: linens, sewing supplies, pots-n-pans, kitchen gadgets, books, and so forth. The majority of which are now cluttering up my living room and kitchen until we can get around to sorting it and figuring out who gets what. Because someone thought it made sense to get it all out of the truck, so into my place it went....
well, if you have read any of my recent ranty/whiny posts about how cluttered and messy my apartment has been lately, you can imagine how I sort of feel about this sudden dramatic increase in the amount of Stuff here. As I mentioned recently, my efforts to keep the place at least somewhat less messy of late had fallen by the wayside while I've been sick; and now there's all this additional stuff and I may have a nervous breakdown.
The only thing keeping me sane is the fact that most of it is very nice stuff. I mean, there's a really nice rocking chair that I'm going to put in Isaac's room once I can get it cleared out and figure out what to do with the crappy rocking chair that's in there now. There are several nice chairs that I can use as kitchen chairs. There's a nice table thingie that I'm going to put in the kitchen and use for some extra storage and maybe as a surface for cooking activities with Isaac which he loves. There look to be a LOT of good kitchenwares: I can always use more pots and pans, and there are some other random cooking implements that I can definitely use. And then a bunch of nice blankets and sheets and so forth as well. So, assuming that we don't fight too hard over too much of the stuff ;) it should turn out well. And that's cool.
But I'm definitely going to be on edge until we get this stuff sorted and dealt with. Sigh.
The sewing machine may or may not be worth anything. None of us actually want/need it, but if it's actually a valuable antique, we might see how much we can sell it for. It's very nice-looking, albeit I know zilch about sewing machines. I shall have to try to find an antique dealer who will tell me honestly how much it's worth.
Anyway, we unloaded all the stuff that Brian and/or I are keeping, plus a few other pieces that went in our basement that we weren't sure what to do with; and Brian and his roommate and
metafrantic went off to take a dresser to
orbitalmechanic and then go unload more stuff chez
metafrantic and then take the rest of it to my mom's place. I was going to go along for all of this, but Ruthie fell asleep. So I'm hanging out here while she naps, and then if timing permits I'll go help with the last of the unloading. Or not. We'll see.
