mamajoan: me in hammock (old fart)

This is an article about a guy who couldn't find a job due to (in his opinion) age discrimination, so he robbed a bank. He figured that they'd send him to jail, where he'd be fed and housed for free (that is, on the taxpayers' dime, of course) until he's old enough to collect Social Security.

Aside from the fact that it's a pretty sad commentary on the state of our society, my other big problem with this is the part where the lawyer refers to the guy as "a charming old man." The guy is 63. My mother is 63, and she's no old woman! 60 just isn't "old" these days the way it used to be. Nowadays, in order to really be "a charming old man" you gotta be at LEAST 70.

Makes me wonder how old that lawyer is. Probably 25, wet behind the ears, still thinks 30 is over the hill. :P

Boo hoo...

Hmm, I think there's more to this story. It's a pretty sad commentray on the life of a 63 year old man who has no other options..

Where's his savings? Why doesn't he have a house to sell to live off of?
I think there's probably other reasons he couldn't find a job, because, as you say, 63 isn't old. So now we are supporting him?
A miminum wage job or 2 is better than jail, I would never ever take the "welfare" option over supporting myself.
Where is his family????

I'd disagree, and say that 60+ is old...but I'm 18. :P
