more computer woes, also dreams
Jun. 10th, 2002 10:27 amNow my computer won't boot up at all, which explains my odd silence all yesterday ('cause I did have stuff to say!). It's really annoying. I was able to read email on the Mac, but it's soooooo slow (going from 550 mHz to 120 is not fun) so I didn't have the patience to read all my lj friends and other stuff, let alone try to post on lj.
Tonight I'm gonna have to reset the BIOS on the computer and see if that will at least convince it to boot up and, like, load Windows and stuff. How dumb was I to go mucking in the BIOS without first making note of all the settings? Sigh.
And yes,
azurelunatic, I do have grand plans to install linux, at least on one of the Macs. But first I need to get the attachment for the switchbox so the two Macs can share the monitor. I'm not ready yet to install linux on the Windows box if it means giving up Windows entirely -- too many apps that I don't think I can do without!
Anyway, Saturday night I had a bunch of interesting dreams and woke up Sunday going "must write these in lj before I forget 'em!" and then was quite annoyed that I couldn't, so I'm gonna do so now, before they slip away even more than they already have.
Dream #1
I dream that Faith comes back to Sunnydale but she hasn't been in prison, just "away" somewhere unspecified for three years. A bunch of stuff happens and then Faith is in a room in Buffy's house, with Spike, and he's asking her why she came back. It turns out that fairly soon after leaving, Faith had a baby, and "they" (unspecified baddies) took the kid away. So Faith has come back to get Spike to help her find and rescue her kid. And Spike is all, "I didn't know vampires could father babies," and Faith says what makes him think he's the father, and he says it's obvious because she's asking *him* to help.
Then the scene changes, just like in an episode, and it's Buffy in Willow's bedroom, going through Willow's clothing and pulling out all the black items and tossing the white items aside. And Willow comes in and says, "hey Buffy, sure you can borrow my clothes, but you should take the white stuff, the black stuff doesn't suit you." And Buffy's all, "duh, it's not for me silly," and leads Willow into the next room, where we discover Faith wearing some of the black clothing and putting the rest into a bag in preparation for setting off on the great baby-rescuing expedition. And I, who am me but also apparently Spike because I'm going with Faith, say to her, "I have a dark-blue sweatshirt. Oh, and SLKA, that's black too." And she says, "Get them." I'm amused that she knows what SLKA means. I go into my closet and find my dark-blue sweatshirt and my SLKA sweatshirt, and then I'm looking around for my bag to pack them in.
Dream #2
I am a teenager(?) with a slightly younger sister, a baby brother, and a mom who is nothing like my actual mom. I think dream-mom is black, in fact, but sister and brother and I are white. We're going shopping at an outdoor mall type thing, and I'm pushing the baby carriage with baby brother in it. We have to cross a busy street with a concrete island, or whatever you call it, separating the two sides of the street. While crossing, I get separated from mom and sister. At the other side of the street I see my sister and she says, "where's mom?" I say, "did she go in that store?" A store is right there, which in the dream I knew the name of but now I can't remember it -- a place like Bread & Circus, mostly fruits and vegetables. I only want my sister to say whether she saw mom go into the store, but she misunderstands and goes inside to look for mom.
I stay outside with the baby. I look down to check on him and the baby carriage isn't really a carriage, it's like a dolly that you use to haul heavy stuff -- just a platform close to the ground, attached to the wheels. I bend over to check on the baby and see that he's okay. I pick him up and notice that he's breathing fast. It's a warm sunny day and he is bundled up in several layers of clothing. I start taking off one of his layers to cool him off.
Sister returns and takes the baby. She hasn't found mom. There's a wide, shallow pool or pond in a lot next to/behind the store, and sister volunteers to take the baby into the pool to bathe/cool/entertain him. So she does, and I'm still looking around for mom, and then I go to see whether I might want to go in the pool. It's not a swimming pool; it's really just a very large puddle on the ground. Sister does a big dive, cannonball maybe, and the spray makes me go shooting up into the air. Then I stop and hover, and I clearly remember thinking, "Ah, so this is also one of those dreams where I can fly. Cool." (Do others have recurring flying dreams?) So I do the thing that, in flying dreams, always makes me go downward, and I start to descend, but before I touch ground it occurs to me that I could use the flying to get a better vantage point on the shopping area and look for my mom. So I try that, but it's not working too well because I bob up and down too much.
So we hang around for a while, and then some cops show up saying they heard that some kids were fooling around, and we explain that we're looking for our mom. And then I'm reading a note that someone (mom?) wrote on fancy lacy paper, explaining how her kids got lost and she heard that some cops had gone to check out some misbehaving kids, so she knew that must be them, and she went there and was reunited with her kids and all was well.
So I never actually dreamt the scene where we found mom again. Just, I guess that last bit was supposed to be many years later when mom was telling the story. Or something.
I know I had other interesting dreams that night, but those are the two I remember clearly. I seem to have more vivid dreams, and to remember them more fully, at certain times in my monthly cycle. It's interesting that both those dreams involve babies, but in neither case is it *my* baby, which is a departure from my usual dream motif.
