mamajoan: me in hammock (fire bad)

I was at a wedding today, and among the many many prayers and bits of scripture that were read was a snippet from Song of Solomon, in a translation I haven't heard before (attributed to "Moffatt"). And maybe I'm just overly obsessed, but this totally makes me think of Clark and Lex...
And like an apple-tree in the forest,
so is my darling among men;
under his shadow I love to lie,
tasting his sweet fruit.
He has brought me to his chamber of joy,
hung over with love.
Sustain me with raisins, revive me with apples,
for I swoon with love!
Let his left hand caress my head,
let his right hand embrace me.
I envision the whole bit being spoken by Lex to/about Clark. Of course, the last bit should be "let his right hand caress my OTHER head"... ;)

I was gone all day with the wedding and the baseball game after (we taped it and watched it when we got home, something we never do, but just this once...) so I have a lot of catching up to do on my friends list. And the computer continues to crash randomly. :P I uninstalled one game that I thought might be causing some of the problems, and we'll see whether that helps at all.

That's, um, a very tame translation.

Although the Hebrew is obscure, it's more likely something like: "He brought me to the banquet room / His bannerpole of love was over me."

Note the line prior to this: "His fruit is sweet to my mouth."

Hmmmm.....

Okay, just retranslated...

"He made me enter [brought me to] the house of wine,
His banner pole of love upon me"

Basically, it's fucking. "Hung over" my ass...

IIRC, Moffatt was a Brit who did a single-handed Bible translation sometime in the '40s? '50s? I could be way off, here.

But the first slash story I wrote was based on that quotation, in the AV translation:

I sat down under his shadow with great delight,
and his fruit was sweet to my taste.
He brought me into the banqueting-house,
and his banner over me was love.

As set by Edward C. Bairstow, where the sopranos hit an orgasmic high G on "baaaanner!" *g* "I Sat Down Under His Shadow" was a Voyager Paris/Kim story.
