more of an updatey type thing
Jul. 4th, 2006 10:27 amI am hot and sweaty again despite having just showered last night after I posted here. Stupid humidity. Also, I am dying from itch. I just counted eighteen mosquito bites on my legs. Stupid mosquitos.
(it has always been thus, ever since I was a kid -- the damn things just love me.)
We did however have a good time at the cottage this weekend. Per tradition, our friend Brian (who lives upstairs from me) and his mom came out, and we celebrated July 4th as well as Brian's birthday which is the 2nd.
sandykidd and
metafrantic came too, with baby Bastian, and many cute pictures (and videos!) of Bastian and Ruthie were taken, which I hope to be able to post soon. In the evenings, we had a cookout on the fire pit -- Brian loves cooking and is great at it, so we let him do all the cooking which he considered an excellent birthday present. He is, as SK said in her journal, going to make some lucky woman VERY happy some day.
Also, there were fireworks. The cottage is on a lake which is ideal for setting off fireworks over, and everyone around the lake does it, despite the highly questionable legality thereof. Brian and Meta had a great time with same, harkening back to their halcyon youth (when they could only dream of actual fireworks, and had to make do with sparklers). Overgrown boys sure do love setting stuff on fire. ;) (Actually, I love it too, and would have gone to participate if not for the baby and all the mosquitos and the general complete lack of energy.)
Isaac has developed a phobia of bugs -- all bugs, even ants and flies -- which is pretty annoying, but normal I guess. It does get old when he completely freaks out and bursts into tears at EVERY teeny insect. (And even at things brushing his legs/feet that aren't insects! Like leaves and grass and whatever!) But hopefully he'll outgrow it. He did manage to have a pretty great time overall, especially with the new climby/bouncy/running-around type toys that his grandma gave him.
And now we're back, and having a quiet morning, and when Ruthie wakes up from her nap we'll probably go to grandma's house and do some laundry, and after Isaac's nap we'll go over to
anotherjen's party. (Isaac knows what "party" means now, so he's excited, although if there's no cake or singing of "Happy Birthday" he might be disappointed. ;) ) And sometime today
sandykidd's father and sisters are arriving for their visit, so it's quite likely that next weekend we'll have another big crowd at the cottage. Whee!
My dumb cat is yowling next to his water dish. Apparently he has yet to realize that I already refilled it. Idiot.
