If it seems like I haven't been talking much about deep life stuff lately, that's probably because you're not on my friends list. I've been doing a lot of friends-only posts about the big things going on in my life. So if you really care, drop me a note and I'll add you to my friends. If you have a livejournal, that is. If not, why not?!
1. What's the oldest piece of clothing you own?
I have some baby clothing that turned into doll clothing for my dolls. There's a teeny t-shirt that says "Teething is the pits." It's so cute. :)
2. Do you own any LPs? What's the oldest one of those? Extra point for Bob Denver.
I own a couple of LPs, although they reside at my mom's place because I don't have a player. The oldest is probably a recording of Beethoven's 5th.
3. What's the first book you remember reading that isn't a picture book?
Tough one! I'm thinking James and the Giant Peach maybe. It was one of my favorite books as a kid; read it over and over.
4. Did you have a favorite writer in 4th grade? If so, who was it?
I think in fourth grade (that's age 10 or 11, yes?) I was pretty into Enid Blyton, a British writer who did this series called Famous Five. It was about these four kids and a dog who went around solving mysteries and stuff.
5. If you watched tv as a child, what's the earliest tv show you remember watching?
Gotta be Sesame Street, of course!
6. What's the name of your first best friend and why aren't you still best friends?
Her name was Siobhan. After fourth or fifth grade she transferred to a different school and moved out from next door, so I never saw her again. I still have a big drawing that we made, though; it was a mock-up of the front page of the Boston Globe. Siobhan wrote and illustrated this story about a couple of kids who made a snowball and then started to walk home but one of them triped[sic] on the icy sidewalk and died.
7. When (and why, if you remember) did you know you wanted to write stories?
I was always making up stories and stuff, and it was always sci-fi. Even on the playground, since none of the other kids wanted to play with me, I would run around pretending to be an intergalactic adventurer. The swings and see-saws were my spaceships. I probably wrote my first real narrative story around age nine or ten. It was about a couple of kids in the future interrogating their grandmother about the swear-words that she used as a kid. It turns out that the cusswords grandma used were the same ones the kids use now! Hee hee!
The first story I clearly remember writing with an actual plot was about a meteor coming to destroy the earth. Scientists build a computer to shoot a missile and destroy the meteor, but at the last moment, a baby pulls the plug on the computer. The End. LOL! I was a pretty fatalistic kid, huh?
Anyway, aside from my college reunion and the stuff I've been talking about in friends-only posts, there's not a lot going on in my life. My brother's moving to Arizona. Tonight I'm finally going to see "Attack of the Clones" so I can finally start reading all the spoiler posts I've saved. This weekend I'm going to Foxwoods (casino) again with M. to celebrate her birthday. Tomorrow or Friday, hopefully, I'll be getting together with
danamaree to welcome her to our lovely USofA. Choir is on hiatus for the summer. Mom's fine, kitties are fine, car's fine, apartment's fine ... what else is there to say?
