Ruth's checkup
Apr. 6th, 2006 01:16 pmRuth had her 2-week checkup today (at 13 days). It went well. She is in excellent health and has regained her birth weight plus four ounces, which is a fantastic weight gain for 2 weeks. She still has a touch of jaundice, but it's normal and the pediatrician wasn't worried about it.
Her umbilical cord stump has been bleeding a teeny bit, which worried me slightly, but the ped cleaned it off and said it looked fine and will check it again in a couple weeks at her 1-month checkup.
It was the pediatrician's first time meeting Ruth, since she wasn't able to come to the hospital for Ruth's day-after-birth check. (Instead she sent one of the other doctors in her practice, who just happened to be our cousin Danny, so that was neat.) So of course the ped oohed and ahhed over her, told me how wonderful she is and so forth. :) She said that Ruth looks like me, which (she says) she didn't think of Isaac when he was little. I think it's true that Isaac looks more like me now than he did as a baby, and Ruth looks a fair amount like me already. The doctor also asked after Isaac and promised not to get Ruth's name wrong (for the longest time she kept calling Isaac "Jacob" for some reason).
So, we go back in 2 and a half weeks for Ruth's 1-month checkup, and then again in early June for her 2-month checkup where we'll also do Isaac's 3-year-old checkup. That should be interesting. Ruth will get her first shots and hopefully it won't freak Isaac out too much. He doesn't get any more shots until he's 4. The doctor said that the 4-year-old shots are her least favorite, because the kids hate them so much, and for many of them it's when they decide they hate HER as well. ;) I'm glad we don't have to worry about that for a whole nother year.
Anyway, that's the report on Ruth's checkup, and an update on the carseat situation is coming after I have a bit of lunch.
