accomplishments!
Feb. 26th, 2006 08:31 pmI made it through yesterday and today without going into labor! This feels like an accomplishment since these were the "anniversary" of my first labor with Isaac. I mean, not the anniversary in the calendar sense, but in the pregnancy timing sense. Yesterday I was 33 weeks 4 days, and when I was 33 weeks 4 days with Isaac -- which was also a Saturday -- was the day I first went into labor. Of course, I didn't actually realize it until about 11pm that night, and it was technically Sunday (around 1am) when I first spoke to the midwife on call and went to the hospital and started getting drugs to stop the labor. Three days of bedrest ensued, with Isaac being born the following Wednesday. So if I make it past this upcoming Wednesday, that'll be an even bigger accomplishment. Whee!
Alas, yesterday was a fairly crappy day. I felt awful all day with stomach pains and gas. I spent the whole morning debating over whether I just had an upset stomach or should be calling the midwives. Isaac got totally fed up with me because I was just sitting around like a pathetic lump. By 11am or so, he was yelling at the top of his lungs "I WANT GRAMMA!" So I threw in the towel and off we went to gramma's house.
So gramma fed Isaac some lunch, and I didn't eat anything on account of the upset stomach. By that point I had pretty much decided that was all it was. While mom was putting Isaac down for his nap, I ate some saltines and drank some chamomile tea. Even THAT made my stomach complain, which is pretty sad. Then I took a nap on mom's bed, which was unsatisfactory because I just couldn't get comfortable. (Not the fault of the bed, just of my body.) As soon as the tummy rumblings calmed down, Cosmo started up with the gymnastics, and vice versa.
In the evening, it was the same story. I ate mild foods for dinner; Cosmo went nuts (probably saying "About damn time you fed me again!"), and between his/her gyrations, tummy rumblings, and gas bubbles, I honestly couldn't tell whether I might also be having contractions. I was pretty pathetic just sitting around like a big lump basically all day. Finally we came home and went to bed.
Today I felt MUCH better. I even thought I might be able to handle a day with Isaac without needing to call my mom for help. ;) But then SHE called and invited us over for waffles. I guess she was worried that I might be as pathetic as I was yesterday. Luckily, I wasn't. I had actual energy and stuff! We stopped on the way over to get mom some flowers, went over and had waffles. We basically spent the entire day there.
I could hardly nap at naptime, alas, because I just couldn't get comfortable. I lay in mom's recliner/armchair, instead of her bed, thinking it might help me to be partially upright; but no such luck. By the time Cosmo finally calmed down enough to let me sleep, my hips had seized up and started throbbing. Ugh. I think I dozed for about an hour and then gave up.
After nap I had a sudden urge to make brownies, so we did, with melted chocolate chips instead of baker's chocolate (since mom didn't have any of the latter) and a recipe out of the Fannie Farmer cookbook. Isaac really enjoys helping with baking -- he loves to dump the ingredients into the bowl (after someone else measures them) and help stir.
While we were baking the brownies, mom remembered that she had some frozen cookie dough in the freezer -- she bought them from a school fundraiser for a coworker's kid -- so we made some of those too. They were ehh. The brownies came out quite well though. It's a good thing we're all out of milk here at home, otherwise I'd be eating the whole pan tonight. ;)
Anyway, so today was a MUCH better day then yesterday, thank goodness. And now that it's evening, I can pat myself on the back for making it past 33w5d without going into labor. :) Yay! Here's hoping Cosmo continues to bake at least a few more weeks, despite how uncomfortable s/he is making me at the moment.
