dreams, recursions
Feb. 22nd, 2006 02:56 pmA recurring theme in my dreams is (re)discovering a new room/wing/section of my home that I had forgotten about or not known about. Also, yesterday I was playing the "what would you do if you won the lottery" game with some friends, and one thing that I mentioned was that I would like to buy out Brian, my co-homeowner, so that I could own and occupy the entire house.
So last night I dreamt that I had done that, and we now owned the whole house. Isaac and I were hanging out at home, and I noticed the stairs leading to the attic and thought "I haven't been up there in a while," so up we went. In the dream, the attic was "finished," i.e., it was several actual rooms, with a lot of random stuff in it, all of which had been left by the previous owners (not Brian, but the people who owned it before Brian and I bought it). In reality, of course, our attic is just a crawl space to provide access to the roof.
Anyway, so I was going through all the stuff, and there were a lot of children's books, to which I was like, "cool, we needed some new books to read." There was also a lot of random stuff (like toaster ovens, etc.) about which I was thinking, "cool, I can sell this stuff on ebay and make some extra cash." (I guess in the dream I forgot that I had won the lottery, hee hee.)
This dream went into more detail than they usually do about all the stuff that was sitting around up there that I had forgotten about. I was getting really excited and having fun looking through all the random stuff. Meanwhile Isaac was just having fun going up and down the stairs ;) which just goes to show that my subconscious knows him as well as I do. ;)
I do kind of wonder what this extra-rooms thing means. I believe it's commonly held that rooms/houses in dreams represent aspects of oneself. So a dream in which one discovers, or rediscovers, a room in one's home that had been forgotten about could arguably represent discovering new things about yourself. But it makes me wonder what it means that I dream about that kind of thing so frequently. In the dreams there's always this sense of "oh yeah, I knew this was here all along, I just haven't been in this room for a while."
Well, maybe it doesn't mean anything at all. :) Who knows? But it's fun to ponder.
