ow, and also, OW
Feb. 13th, 2006 10:59 amYeah, so, remember in yesterday's entry when I said that my back wasn't too happy with the walk we took in the snow? It turns out that that was what we in the writing biz like to call a gross understatement.
To clarify, yesterday I did do a bit of shoveling; it seemed manageable since the snow was very light and fluffy. It only took me a few minutes to clear the stairs and sidewalk and a little bit around my car. But then I pushed Isaac in the stroller to CVS and back, which granted is only about four blocks or so (each way), but well, our stroller is not precisely an all-terrain vehicle, dude. It was some difficult pushing. There were a few bits where I actually had to stop and take Isaac out of the stroller and lift the stroller over a pile of snow and then put him back in. OK, that was dumb and we probably should have just skipped the entire expedition, but I thought it would be an adventure, dammit! And anyway the diaper situation was getting kind of dire.
I should also add that even when not pregnant I have a bad back. Have had for years. And it doesn't generally care too much for shoveling snow or for a lot of difficult walking/stroller-pushing.
So then last night after I wrote my previous post, I thought I'd do some stretching in hopes of loosening up the muscles and preventing me from being a total mess today. Well, the stretching was probably a good idea but DAMN. Of the stretches that I usually do for back pain, some of them hurt a really lot, and others, I couldn't even do because it hurt too much. It was bad. After Isaac went to bed I took a long hot shower and hoped things would be better in the morning.
Well, they kind of were, but still pretty bad. Getting out of bed was hard. Getting dressed was hard. Putting on my boots was killer. And getting out of the car after driving to daycare was horrible. Owww.
I may have to break down and take some Tylenol. I hate to medicate Cosmo, but it might be necessary.
On the bright side, the roads were pretty clear this morning and I didn't have to do anything for my car except about thirty seconds' worth of brushing off the snow. I guess it stayed cold enough all day yesterday that we didn't have a thaw-and-freeze cycle, so there wasn't any ice to contend with, yay. On the whole this storm was WAY easier to deal with than it could have been.
Also, I checked at daycare this morning and it turns out there are thirteen kids for tomorrow's not-really-a-Valentine's-Day-party-no-really-we-swear party. I still have fifteen muffins because I forced myself to be virtuous and not eat any more of them last night, even though they smelled so yummy, snif snif. ;) So, the only question is, would it be terrible to bring ten muffins with Valentine's Day papers and three with no papers for the party? *ponder*
