pregnancy update
Feb. 10th, 2006 09:55 pmMy belly is definitely as big now as it was in the last set of pictures I took with Isaac. That's not surprising since those pictures were taken at about 32 weeks and I'm almost 32 weeks now. It'll be interesting to see how much bigger I'm going to get, and by interesting I mean somewhat alarming. ;)
The closer I get to 34 weeks (the point at which Isaac was born), the more I find myself fretting over every little twitch and twinge. I've been having some gas, which is always good for a moment or two of panic until I realize what it is. And then there are the Braxton-Hicks contractions, which have been particularly bad today. According to my midwife it's normal for them to be stronger, more intense, and more uncomfortable in a second or subsequent pregnancy. Thus far until today they haven't really been all that bad, but today they kicked in. Maybe because I didn't drink enough water today. I've been doing pretty well on the water consumption, but I did slip a bit today. Anyway, on the bright side, the B-H are fairly easily distinguishable from real contractions because they go away if you move around or drink more water. And they're not actually painful, just uncomfortable. Well, it's hard to describe.
Also kicking into high gear the past few days have been the hip pain, back pain, and sciatica. Those are always fun. I have to be more conscious of how I sit, especially when I sit for a period of time, because if I sit in a bad position it increases the likelihood of pain when I try to get up -- really bad, can't-put-weight-on-that-foot pain. Luckily it can be walked off, but why put myself through that? Sigh. I really wish I could afford a massage right now.
In boob news, I've belatedly realized that my bras are too small, or to be precise, I've outgrown them. The lines on my boobs when I take off my bra at the end of the day are the big hint there. I don't really have money for new bras either so I'm just going to have to make do. Although, if I get significantly bigger again after Cosmo arrives and my milk comes in, new bras will become a real necessity.
And speaking of my milk coming in, I've started to lactate again. It actually happened for the first time a few weeks ago -- I squeeze 'em every time I shower, just to see, and a few weeks ago something came out -- but wasn't consistent until recently. I only get a few drops of colostrum, but still, it's entertaining. ;) It makes me kind of wonder what would happen if I called it to Isaac's attention, but I'm not going there. He seems to be perfectly happy having weaned, and so (mostly) am I.
There really is some weird cognitive dissonance going on around the fact that it's still 8.5 weeks until my due date but only 2.5 weeks until the point where Isaac arrived. A part of me really feels like I only have 2 weeks left and thus can't possibly accomplish some of the stuff I want to do before the baby arrives (particularly, getting Isaac a new bed and transitioning him into it). But another part really feels like it's still ages until Cosmo will be here. Heh, not that 8.5 weeks is really ages either....
