Ugh, so much to update on, where to begin?
I believe I shall begin by explaining that Isaac does indeed have a cold, and thus has had trouble sleeping the last few days. It sucks trying to sleep when you can't breathe through your nose, as you probably know. Last night he slept about 2 - 2.5 hours without coughing, but then he woke up coughing and crying, and I ended up in his room for about two hours from midnight to 2am. I wasn't even doing anything useful, just lying there with him while he tossed and turned and whimpered and tried to breathe and sleep. I dozed off briefly myself, then finally he fell asleep for real and I got up and went back to my bed.
And I didn't hear him cough any more after that, so here's hoping that was the worst of it and it'll get better now. He was cheery this morning despite the coughing and runny nose. I, meanwhile, am a zombie.
Of course, the weather isn't helping either. After a week or so of temps in the mid-40s F (i.e., unseasonably warm for January), then on Saturday it was a totally ridiculous 60 but pouring rain. Then the temp dropped about 30 degrees overnight.
You know what sucks, is when you wake up and look out the window and go, "oh, there's just a light dusting of snow on my car, it'll take half a minute to brush off," but then you go out and discover that the "light dusting" of snow is covering up the thick layer of ice encrusting your car. It seriously took me about ten minutes just to get the doors open so I could start the engine and get out the scraper. At one point when neither of the front doors would open, I opened the trunk, and thought "I'll just climb through!" Then I realized that I am a) pregnant and b) no longer nineteen, so I scrapped that idea. Eventually I got the doors open and then it "only" took me about half an hour to scrape the ice off the windshield. The ground was covered in ice too, so I couldn't get any traction for scraping, and had to tread very carefully because just what I didn't want was to fall on my ass.
So that was Sunday's weather. And then this morning it was about 15F with a windchill of several degrees below zero, and the front door to my apartment was iced shut. Brr. Oh, hello there, winter; so you're back, are you? Yes, I noticed you were on vacation. Can't say as I missed you though.
Anyway, on to the actual weekend recap. On Saturday we had a slow lazy type morning. After Isaac's nap, during which he coughed a lot so he was still groggy and tired afterward, we went over to grandma's house, and a bunch of confusion ensued, the end result of which was that we went briefly to the natural-foods store in Central Square (where we bumped into
orbitalmechanic's sister-in-law) and then I went home, leaving Isaac with grandma and
metafrantic and
sandykidd. Isaac spent the night with grandma and had another difficult night, sleeping/breathing-wise, although he was cheery and had fun. In the morning they baked bread together. Isaac has been doing a lot of baking/cooking with grandma lately and he LOVES it. It just furthers my feeling that I need to get him one of those toy kitchen things.
Meanwhile, I had a nice lazy night/morning to myself. I accomplished approximately nothing and stayed up way too late. I tried to justify this by telling myself that after Cosmo is born I probably won't have many opportunities to just hang out alone and goof off. Of course, as
anotherjen points out, I also won't have many opportunities to get extra sleep, so maybe I ought to have done that, but well, I didn't. ;)
Then on Sunday morning I went back over to grandma's place and we had waffles. Isaac was cheery but quite tired. By 12:30 he was visibly drooping so my mom started trying to get him to nap, and I popped over to
anotherjen's place for a bit, and when I got back everyone was napping. So I just hung out until Isaac woke up. Then we puttered around a bit and went back to my place, or to be more accurate, Brian's place (the apartment upstairs from me). Brian, the guy who co-owns the house with me, was having a dinner party. He and my brother
metafrantic went to high school together, so also in attendance were a few other guys they went to high school with, and their parents. It was pretty fun. Brian is an excellent cook and I OD'd on the spinach and artichoke cheese dip he had made. But Isaac was still tired so after a while he got manic and I took him downstairs to watch Thomas.
sandykidd kindly sat with him for a bit while he watched it, so I could go back up and have the all-important dessert ;) and then I went back down and Thomas ended and I put Isaac to bed.
So, it was a pretty good weekend overall, although Isaac spent much of it being tired because of the sleeping/sick thing. And I, as I mentioned at the beginning of this post, am totally wiped from being up with him last night. I just finished my morning tea and am already fighting to keep my eyes open. I may have to break my only-one-cup-of-caffeine-per-day rule. sigh.
Yikes, this got long and I've even left a bunch of stuff out. Well, prepare to see more lengthy posts from me as the day goes on ... if I can stay awake long enough to write them, that is.
