mamajoan: me in hammock (waaah)

I went to pay the minimum payment on my credit-card bill, and discovered that I have a "payment holiday." Which apparently means that they won't charge me a late fee if I don't pay it on time. I guess this is their way of milking some more interest out of me in this post-holiday season. Of course, the reason my bill is over $1000 has nothing to do with the holidays, but still, I'm going to take advantage of it. I have a check from my mom for $1000 that I just need to cash, but it won't hit my bank account by the credit-card due date, which is why I was going to pay the minimum payment today. But if they aren't going to slap on a $50 late fee, I'll just wait till the check clears. Thanks suckers! LOL

I balanced my checkbook and it wasn't pretty. There were a lot of little transactions that I hadn't entered. After I pay the mortgage bill, there isn't going to be enough left to cover the next two weeks of daycare ($600), let alone car gas and the sixteen other bills I have to pay. (Student loan: $200 and already a month overdue. Web-hosting: $120 and already almost a month overdue. Phone/internet: $150 and already two months overdue. And that's just off the top of my head.) I guess groceries are going to have to fall by the wayside.

I believe it's time to call the mortgage people again and nag them about reducing my payments. And then I'll just be over here banging my head on the desk.

You pay $300 a week for daycare?? Holy s*it!!!

What will it cost for a newborn and Isaac? (just curious)

Yep, $300 a week and that's for 4 days a week. If he went a full 5-day week it would be $320.

I'm trying very hard not to think about how much it's going to be with two, thanks.

My gosh, I cannot begin to imagine what you feel when you have to write a check for that much. Times have certainly changed since mine was in daycare. I remember when he was an infant and I paid $120 a week and thought that was a lot. Whew!

You might call the student loan people and see whether you can wangle some kind of hardship deferral. You won't qualify for the default, but you might beg and plead and say "Look, I have a kid, I'm about to have two kids, I only make $X and I can't pay it please please please" and see whether they'd rather have you make smaller payments than default. (I wouldn't necessarily take a refinance, because those will probably sock you with HUGE interest fees, but see what they offer.)

I feel your pain. I get two paycheques a month. One almost covers my housing costs (rent plus utilities). Why do I think I can possibly pay everything else that I and four kids need in NYC on the other half? Because I'm an idiot, clearly.

Why $120 for webhosting? What do you host?

Oh -- the $120 is the fee for the company that hosts my website (englishchick.com) and provides my webspace and all my email addresses. It's actually $10/month, but they bill annually. Which is really annoying, but they have to do it that way because they're a small company (literally I think it's like one guy, his wife, and maybe one other person). They just don't have the person-power to bill monthly.
