another dream I can't interpret
Dec. 14th, 2005 03:03 pmThe other night's dream rewrote history. In this dream, rather than having conceived and borne Isaac as a single woman, I had done it with my female partner. But since then we had broken up and were sharing custody of Isaac. In the dream, I brought Isaac to my ex for her custody time, and she told me that she had started him at a new daycare near her house, and I said, instead of bringing him to her and having her take him to daycare, why didn't I just take him to daycare and then she could pick him up? It was one of those boring logistics discussions that (I imagine) divorced parents have all the time.
So then I took Isaac to the new daycare (he was only going to go there a couple days a week, and continue going to the one he goes to in real life the rest of the time). So the rest of the dream was just kind of like a, me getting to know the new daycare sort of thing. There was a whole bit where an older child tried to engage me in conversation about something, but I forget what that was about.
Anyway, it's all very mysterious. What is this dream trying to tell me? I have no idea.

Date: 2005-12-15 02:23 am (UTC)I think it reflects your ambivalence about being single. On some level the idea of having a partner in parenting appeals, but you also recognize that it doesn't always work out and sometimes couples break up. Also, it's reflecting your presumed anxiety about child care arrangements when you have two kids - will you have to change the arrangements and will you then need to get to know a new caregiver. I think when things are changing in one's life (like when one is pregnant) dreams often reflect wondering about what life will be like.
Btw, when I dreamed about having two kids when Doran was a baby, Doran was always the baby and there would be another, older kid. I think I thought he was the essence of baby or something.
Not very original or insightful, but those are my thoughts. In the interest of full disclosure I should probably tell you that my view of dream interpretation is pretty well summed up in that classic text, The Berenstain Bears and the Bad Dream.
