Much thanks to [livejournal.com profile] maggiesox for pointing me to this article, which truly does have the best headline evar. ROTFL.

Man, what a change in weather from yesterday to today! Yesterday: rainy, very humid, mid-70s. Today: overcast, windy, low 50s. Brr. Yes, it's way colder than it was yesterday. Yesterday felt like August. Today feels like November. Grump.

Isaac and I just went for a walk. It was much shorter than planned. Brr. But at least we did see two trains go under our bridge, and both blew their horns for us.

My mom suggested that we go to Friendly's for dinner tonight. I immediately agreed, but later I realized, wait -- there's nothing at Friendly's that I can frickin' eat!!!! I usually get the grilled cheese (which I love). I usually get Isaac another grilled cheese, or the mac-n-cheese. (I always order him something that I'm willing to eat, because you never know how much he'll decide to eat.) And of course, the whole point of Friendly's is the free ice cream sundae you get for dessert.

Well, I can't eat any of that!! It's all chock-full of lactose!!! ARRGGHHH

Maybe I'll get some of those Lactaid pills and give them a try. Allegedly you can pop them right before a meal and they help you digest the lactose. Would it be worth the risk, to get to eat some ice cream? I shall have to ponder this.

I'm slowly working on downloading my entire website so I can back it up before it gets moved to a new server. I keep thinking this would be the perfect opportunity to do that overhaul of Isaac's site that I keep thinking about, but the thing is, who has the time? The most recent pictures up there are from like March. I am a bad mama. I really gotta update that thing and revamp it and stuff. But when, when, when? Woe!

OK, Isaac is whining, time to go make spaghetti.

I know that Lactaid works for me. I just ate a bowl of cream soup, after taking a Lactaid, and have had no unpleasant symptoms at all. If you do get them, get the Ultra -- then you only have to take one. For some others, you have to take two or three.

Ice cream is always worth it, IMO. :-)

Lactaid does seem effective

One of the members of my circle takes the pills when we have anything cheesy or creamy for dinner. BTW, according to Alton Brown, most aged cheeses have little or no lactose. But processed cheese food products and soft "fresh" cheeses probably still have enough to bother you if you don't take Lactaid. So good luck with the Friendly's.

Better than commercial Lactaid, if you can find it wherever you buy supplements, is capsules of straight Lactase, which is the enzyme that's the active ingredient. I had much, much better luck with that than Lactaid, though lactaid is good, too.
