Apparently, super-intelligent, highly-trained attack dolphins armed with toxic dart guns are loose in the Gulf of Mexico.

No, really.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kenboy for the link.

I'd read about the marine commando dolphins before......but I'd never really believed in them before. Now I'm not so sure :-)

Well, that certainly puts a damper on the underwater treasure looting.

How surprising that this was reported in international media and not here in the U.S.!
From: [identity profile] retch.livejournal.com
well, the unnamed experts certainly makes it fairly suspect... it is perfect internet rumor material. :)

Now we have to beware of Flipper?

I bet those dolphins are PISSED OFF and I don't blame them, what the hell is the Navy THINKING? Dolphins are great, but I wouldn't want to meet one that was armed - they've got more folds in their gray matter than we do (a surer sign of intelligence than actual cranial capacity) and they aren't dumb enough to wear digital watches or get elected to Congress.

I saw this article a couple of days ago and the part I just can't wrap my head around is the mechanics of how a dolphin could shoot a toxic dart gun. Maybe I'm just not imaginative enough.

Oh, well, it could be designed so the dolphin can bite the trigger, for instance. Aiming would be the hard part.
