Isaac stuff
Sep. 12th, 2005 12:17 pmToday is Isaac's first day as a "two" at daycare. I forgot to mention here that a few weeks ago I got the official notice that he was "moving up" from the toddlers to the twos. It's not that big of a change, because the toddlers and twos are in the same room together, separated by a low (toddler-height) wall, but often combined for activities, especially at the beginning and end of the day when there aren't many of them around yet/still. So it's the same room, the same teachers, and the same kids; just that he'll be spending all his time on the two side instead of some of it on the toddler side; and his cubby is on the two side now.
Here's a rundown of some of the interesting things Isaac is up to lately, since I feel like all I post about lately is his sleep problems:
* His fear of bugs seems to have peaked and is now getting better. A couple of weeks ago he totally freaked out when there was a fly in the car, to the point that I had to pull over and shoo it out the window. Then last Friday as we were getting into the car, he said "there's a bug in the car" and I said "oh, yes there is, it's just a little bug" and he climbed on in. Yay. He also seems to be getting better about dogs. Yesterday when we were on the bridge and a dog went by with its owner, I expected Isaac to grab me, but instead he said, "Isaac pet it?" and actually petted the dog!
* Yesterday he invented a new game whereby he lies on the floor on his belly and blows on the little clumps of cat-fur that accumulate everywhere. Then he cackles with laughter to see the fur flying across the room. Then he crawls after it to blow on it some more.
* He has picked up (from daycare I guess) that idea of mama kissing a booboo to make it better. Every time he bumps himself even a teeny bit, "Isaac hurt himself" and "mama kiss it." Then I kiss it and he beams and says "All better!"
* When he's impatient to eat something that's hot, he'll say "it's hot" and "Isaac blow on it" and then he'll give one quick blow and say "it's warm!" and dig in. LOL.
* He has really gotten into the whole game whereby he says something that's blatantly untrue, just to hear me go "Nooo!" in a silly voice. So he'll point to something yellow and say "it's purple" or he'll say "go to gramma's house!" when he knows we're going to daycare, or whatever. Usually when I'm dropping him off at daycare he'll say "mama go to work" but one day recently he said "Isaac go to daycare, mama go to the beach?" LOL! (BTW his daycare teachers apparently think it's really funny that he refers to the place as "daycare." I guess all the other kids call it "school." That just feels wrong to me.)
* His latest thing to say is "Isaac take a nap on mama's shoulder?" This means he wants to be picked up so he can put his head on my shoulder. It usually does not mean that he's tired, but more that he needs comforting, something has upset him or whatever. He will rest on my shoulder for literally about two seconds and then be done. But I probably hear "Isaac take a nap on mama's shoulder" fifty times a day.
* He continues to show a baffling aversion to the word "his." Everything is "her" even though we have corrected him so often he must be doing it on purpose now. "Mama watch Isaac eat her yogurt?" "Isaac take off her shoes!" "Isaac play with her toys!" and even once "Isaac not need diaper on her penis!" ;) I really think he's just doing it to mess with us now. Yesterday I tested him: he said "Mama watch Isaac eat her yogurt" and I said "Mama watch Isaac eat what?" and he said "...his yogurt." Ha! So it is sinking in, at least a little.... ;)
* Pictures! My mom got some good ones at the cottage last weekend but alas I don't have them here at the office. I'll try to post them later. Meanwhile, here are some of the ones I took last weekend. WARNING -- toddler nudity ahoy!

My boy. Is he a ham or WHAT? ;)
