plans change
Sep. 9th, 2005 09:51 pmI got my baby back! yay!! my car has returned unto me.
As it turns out, my mom won't be going to NYC this weekend after all, because that family friend she was going to visit died this morning. :(
I was at mom's house after picking up my car, preparing to return mom to her car (complex vehicular logistics ensued), when she heard her cellphone ringing. By the time she located it, it had stopped, but the caller ID showed the number of the folks she was going to visit, and then there was a voicemail from their son saying "call as soon as you get this." So we pretty much knew right away it had to be bad news, because what else would it be? The line was busy, but mom hit redial for a while and eventually got through and indeed. Even the doctors were surprised by how fast she went, apparently; but then, it had certainly been clear that she didn't have much time left.
So, mom isn't going, and she was kind of numb I think, not really knowing what to do with herself and all. We hung out for a while, she made some phone calls, we watched some of the game. Then we took her to her car and took me and Isaac home.
Mom sounds like she'll probably go to the cottage, so our weekend doesn't change much; we still have to figure out what to do with ourselves. sigh. But whatever....
Oh, and the prodigal babysitter finally checked in. Apparently she's been working 80-hour weeks doing some kind of proposal, which just got finished today. But she's still planning to work all weekend on other work stuff, and then leave Sunday night for a business trip. Yikes! She says to me, "I'm taking tomorrow off." Taking Saturday "off"??? Oy. Anyway, she's on board for chorus rehearsal babysitting, except that she won't be available this Monday for the first rehearsal. I left a message for another sometime babysitter and am crossing my fingers.
And now, I so seriously must get my ass to bed. I mean it.
