I wouldn't go so far as to say that our sleep problems are solved, but things have been better the last few nights. After a couple of weeks in which getting Isaac to sleep was a huge battle every night, what has been working the last few nights is that instead of leaving his room immediately after I put him in the crib, I sit on the floor next to the crib and read a book (with a flashlight). Generally, he goes to sleep pretty quickly when I do this, and then I can sneak out. (Although if I misjudge how deeply asleep he is, the creaking of floorboards as I leave will wake him and we have to do it all over again. And the floorboards in his room are VERY creaky.)

So, that's working out okay. I also put the railing back on his crib. I had removed it, thinking (I don't know why; in my sleep-deprived haze one night this seemed to make sense) that it might help. It didn't, and he kept falling out of bed, which obviously wasn't working out. So I put it back on.

It still isn't the best solution, and I still generally have to wait until he's falling apart and a total mess from tiredness before I start his bedtime routine. But it's better than what we had been dealing with. And I'm learning a lot about the Marx Brothers, as the book I've been reading by his bedside is a biography of Groucho. Someone gave it to me ages ago, but I've only now cracked it open. It's some interesting stuff.

And on that comical note, bedtime for me.

I'm glad it's a little better. If you want more Marx brothers reading, Harpo's autobiography, Harpo Speaks, is quite good.
