sooooooooooo tired :(
Aug. 18th, 2005 05:45 pmI am so tired I could cry. In fact, I am crying as I write this, because typing that I'm tired made me more tired. Isaac woke up at 5:40 this morning.
I started to write a whole long post on the sleep issue, but I was -- you guessed it -- too tired. So suffice it to say that there are lots of theories, but theories don't do me much good because this is not in fact a science experiment; this is our life, and we can't really go on trying something new every day just to see what happens. Something has to give, and apparently it's going to be me.
Despite my best efforts to go to bed as soon as Isaac does, I'm still worn out, because as bizarre as it seems, I can't sleep!! Does that happen to you, where the more tired you are, the harder it is for you to fall asleep and stay asleep? The body can be so cruel.
They use sleep deprivation as torture, you know. Have done for thousands of years. There's probably some benighted Afghani in Guantanamo who feels exactly the way I do right now.

Date: 2005-08-18 11:35 pm (UTC)Her problem is that she often dozes fitfully until about 5am when she finally sinks into a good sleep - so she wails and grizzles because she's so tired when she has to actually get up.
I just bought the no-cry sleep solution for toddlers & preschoolers. Will post about it if it does any good (although the last couple of nights she's actually gone down at about 10, then woken about 1 and come in to me but gone back to sleep without nursing, and woken between 7 and 8. That's bearable.
My big problem isn't getting to sleep in the first place, it's getting *BACK* to sleep after she's woken me. I think I have lost the ability to fall asleep unless completely exhausted :(

Date: 2005-08-19 07:56 pm (UTC)I finally did get (pharmaceutical) help...which probably isn't an option for you right now since you're pregnant. However, there may be (sedative-type) herbs you can safely take throughout your pregnancy. You really should speak to your midwife about this. Also, you might think about taking a yoga or meditation class -- something to quiet your mind so you can drift off. I know just thinking about having to research solutions to this problem is enough to make you cry again...but there's got to be a way to get you some sleep. Talk to your doctor, talk to your midwife. Someone will be able to help.
Hang in there!!
