Oh fuck!

Red Sox pitcher Matt Clement got hit in the head with a batted ball. This is NOT good. They had to take him away on a stretcher. No word on his condition yet.

That's the second time ever that I've personally been watching a game (on TV) when a pitcher got his in the head with a ball. And I hope it never happens again. It is HORRIBLE. So scary. That ball moves so fast, and 60 feet is just not that far; he didn't even have time to get his hand up to block it.

Think good thoughts for Matt and his family. It's not even about the game any more (although he's one of our best pitchers so it sucks in that sense too ... but that is SO secondary). It's about a human being getting hit in the head with a very hard ball traveling very fast. O.O

In more frivolous news, I topped off my day of self-injury by scratching the hell out of my finger with my car key. SIGH. The way this day has gone, I bet I fall out of bed tonight.

Dr. Gill, team physician has talked with Matt, and he is "in good spirits". His CT scan came back negative, and he never lost consciousness. He's aware of where he is and what happened. They're holding him overnight and will re-examine him in the morning.
