and an actual update....
Jul. 16th, 2005 04:16 pmHeh, okay, now that I've gotten that off my chest (see previous post), here's an actual update.
Yesterday (Friday) was a wacky day. I only got about 1.5-2 hours of work in before we all headed off to our company's employee BBQ/ice-cream party. It was held at a place near the office that has golf, miniature golf, volleyball, pony rides, etc., and is famous for its ice cream. We had BBQ lunch catered and then there was an ice cream buffet. It was pretty fun. I didn't do any of the actual athletic activities; I and my three coworkers who always play Scrabble at lunchtime, brought our Scrabble board (earning the derision of many other coworkers ;) ) and we played numerous games, employing a bunch of the weird variations we always talk about trying but never actually try. That was fun. And we WERE at least outside, sitting at picnic tables under the big tent provided for our company. It was very hot! I went back for seconds on the ice cream. And gave serious consideration to thirds. ;)
Then I went to pick Isaac up from daycare, we played a bit, then went to my mom's place, played some more and had some dinner. Then mom's upstairs neighbor Stephanie came and took Isaac to the playground and I headed off to the Red Sox game.
I had left pretty early, so I was feeling good when I got off the bus, confident that I would make it for the beginning of the game. And then I started walking from the bus stop toward the stadium, and got about ten steps, and ... realized I had left my ticket to the game at mom's house.
D'OH!!!!!!
So I hailed a cab and took it back to mom's house (I shouldn't have, it was $10, but I was so annoyed at myself!) and got the ticket and got back on the bus. So I missed the whole first Yankees ups and almost all of the Red Sox ups in the first inning. Sigh. And then it took me a while to find my mom, because I never dreamed that she would actually be in her ticketed seat. ;)
But I did get to see a LOT of action and excitement. It was a REALLY good game. The Sox kicked Yankee ass, 17-1! We got to see an inside-the-park home run, which you do NOT see very often, plus another grand slam from Papi, which RULED. Trot Nixon, the right-fielder, hit the inside-the-parker, and our seats were along the right-field line, so when Trot came out to play his position after the homer, we all gave him a standing O. It was awesome. I thought I was going to go deaf. :) :)
And we got home by 11:00, which was great because I was slightly worried about Isaac with Stephanie, as she doesn't have a lot of toddler experience. (She did have my cellphone number of course.) But it was fine. He was sleeping and Stephanie was working on her laptop. Mom let me sleep on her bed and she took the couch (the last few times, I've slept on the couch). That was nice. Isaac woke up at 6am and mom got him up, then I took him and nursed, and then mom took him back and I thought "I'll just rest another ten minutes and then go take over," and next thing I knew another two hours had gone by. *blush* But it was fine and they were just playing.
And that was our Friday and Saturday, thus far. It's damn hot today, so I think when Isaac wakes up we'll go in the back yard and fill up the wading pool. Or maybe just go to the playground that has sprinklers. We'll see.
