Wow, my LJ sure is manic-depressive lately, isn't it?

In happier news I want to report that the berry plants I planted on Mother's Day, courtesy of a friend, are growing! The raspberries are sending out shooters and colonizing the immediate area. They don't have any berries yet, but it's not their season and I was told not to expect anything the first year anyway.

The strawberries, on the other hand, are actually producing berries!! OMG. I was so excited, because again I was told there wouldn't be any berries the first year. But last Saturday I went over to check on them, and "what's that bright red spot?!" A berry!! I picked maybe eight or ten that day, and took them to show my mom, who was like, "Get outta here!!!" She seriously didn't believe I had picked them from my own yard. :) They were teeny, but quite tasty. There were also a few that I didn't pick that weren't ripe yet. Today I picked and ate one more, and there are still some more that aren't ripe yet.

I am so excited. Okay, it's only going to be a "harvest" of maybe a dozen this year, but still -- strawberries!!!! Growing in my very own back yard!!! w00t!

Hey, I don't think you should feel dorky over this. Growing strawberries in your own yard is COOL! I live for the day when I have my own yard to grow stuff in. :)
